Audio Described Video
After moving from SageTV V7 Server windows to SageTV V9 Server linux, I've been encountering unexpected Audio Described Video.
For instance, I was just watching an episode of Big Bang Theory that was recorded tonight by my HDPVR with Dolby Digital/448Kbps@48kHz 5.1. I was just getting normal audio for the first 2/3 of the video. Then it came back from a commercial and all of the sudden there was a guy describing everything that was going on. Over the weekend I ripped the Star Wars Blu ray box set with Makemkv. I get Audio Descriptions if I select the AC3 stream from the Audio Language menu. Are these descriptions embedded into the audio stream? Is there a way to get rid of them? |

I had that happen with my recording on my PC using sage tv when under "Detailed Setup" I accidently used "WMV Video Decoder DMO" selected under VC-1 video decoder instead of default. As for the problem with your rips I had that problem when not selecting to encode the 5.1 audio stream and tried ripping the audio as stereo using the lower quality audio stream. Most newer blurays now have an audio track for the blind and that is probably what you ripped... I had it happen to me with a show I ripped and when playing it back locally all I could hear was the musical soundtrack but plex with it's encoding played it fine when streamed :P Nowadays if I rip something I rip the first segment which usually goes fast to see if I am ripping it right then if I am I do the entire thing that way |

Odd that the HD-PVR was picking up the alternative audio stream - that means your STB actually switched streams at some point during the recording (or it was just a snafu at the head-end).
Regarding the rips, you just have to be selective about what streams you pull in. Most BluRay's these days include the main English audio as a DTS-HD audio track, along with it's DTS Core. Any English AC3 tracks are likely either Descriptive Audio, or Commentary. If for some reason you need an AC3 track, you'll have to convert the DTS-HD or DTS Core track to AC3.

That makes sense. I did get "SageTV has detect a halt in the recording" message for that Big Bang Theory recording. I didn't see any gaps in the recording, but perhaps the was a drop in the DirecTV audio stream and the HDPVR switched to a different audio stream.

Except the HD-PVR does not in any way choose stream, it simply records what gets pushed into it over HDMI, SPDIF, or Analog - so this is entirely on the boxes end.

I've had this happen a number of times over the past 6-12 months. I use 3 HVR-2250s to record OTA. It seems to happen only when my daughters PBS cartoons are on. I figured it was some kind of audio stream for the visually impaired to help describe the show.Nothing to seems to stand out as a trigger for it, but if I change the channel and come back or stop and retune the channel it almost always goes away.
