need help installing linux drivers

hi,

I am taking the plunge to switch from win 7 to linux sagetv install. I have hauppauge 2250 & 2255 cards. I am looking at this link for the drivers http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/linux.html It lists the drivers as ubuntu 14.04.03 I am using a different linux distro linuxmint debian to be exact. Will these drivers work with my os? i know ubuntu is based on debian so hoping that any custom ubuntu tweaks wont impare the drivers from working. or is there a better option for needed linux drivers?

Before rebuilding a kernel, etc, I'd just try the card in your distro and see if it is picked up or not. In many cases, if you are running a newer version of linux, the drivers might already be there.

I am using Hauppauge 1 of 2250 & 2 of 2255 cards. I was told that 2255 drivers are included in 4.2 kernel. my distro is running an older kernel 3.19 . I am afraid to update in case i break something. The older 2250 card is not incl but was given a link to linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.ph...WinTV-HVR-2250 never been good with drivers. i have always been lucky with linux distro working right out of the box so to speak.

My recommendation is to upgrade. I had to go through this when the HDPVR was first released, and everytime I'd take a new kernel update, then I'd have to rebuild the drivers. Many things will "just work" in Linux, but if you staying on a very old kernel, that is not going to be the case

What are you running that you need to stay on an old kernel?
