Remote access via Placeshifter

Thanks to some great help on the OpenDCT forum, I have the SageTV unRAID Docker working on Placeshifter and HD200 on my local network, but I've been unable to connect using Placeshifter remotely.

Since I also have a W7 V9 server on the same local network, I'm unable to port forward to 31099 to the unRAID server, so I set up a different Placeshifter port on sage.properties in unRAID and forwarded that one to my unRAID server.

Without success.... So, how can I access SageTV remotely using unRAID?

You can leave the placeshifter port at 31099 on your new unraid server, but then in your router, route a different internet side port to the unraid's 31099 port. Then, when you connect with placeshifter, connect to ip:port.

Pretty sure that's the first thing I tried, but I tried it again and no luck. I'm testing by using my phone hotspot for the internet connection. The 'test connection' option has either been removed or I can't find it, so I can't check it that way. I'm using no-ip, so have set it up on PS as my.noipname.org:11111. Verified that the hotspot connects via a google search.

Port 11111 on my router forwards to 111.111.111.1, port 31099.

My PS setups are:
  • Using PS V9
  • Unraid remote: per above. Does not connect. Uses 'my.nioipname.org:11111"
  • Unraid local: Connects.
  • W7 V9 remote: Does not connect. Uses 'my.noipname.org'.
  • W7 V9 local: Connects.
  • W7 V7 remote: Connected prior to V9 install. Used 'my.noipname.org'

I'd check the server's sagetv_0.txt log right after trying a remote connection test and look for a line saying something like "...MiniUI got connection from java.nio.channels.SocketChannel..." around the same time as the test. Just to be paranoid also check the other server's log and make sure it doesn't have a "MiniUI got connection" line. Then try again against the other server also checking both logs. That should at least give an idea if you're reaching the servers.

If you're reaching them I'd probably use a packet sniffer like Wireshark on Windows or tcpdump on unRAID to first watch how a negotiation works on a local connection and comparing it to when trying to connect remotely.

I use PS fine, but just have a single W10 V9 server on the local network.
