What OS and decoders are you running on your server, and on what types of files are you seeing the playback issue?
How's your system performance when you experience it? |

Thanks for the reply
I am running windows 10. Taskmgr is not showing any performance issues. I have the max java heap size set and I have even removed all plugins. I have been using hdhomerun for years and the files it creates are .ts files. Everything worked fine in ver 7, due to the epg shutdown I upgraded to 9.1.5.683 in July it was ok but had minor interface problems like the back button on the mouse no longer worked. In October I upgraded to 9.1.7 and that's when these 2 problems started. I have been using ffdshow decoder and evr video render for years. Last edited by mitchcecg; 11-19-2017 at 08:03 AM. |

There are a bunch of folks here who are a lot smarter than I am. But support and activity has been steadily waning since the EPG changeover last summer. I don't run a client, but your problem sounds familiar. Have you had any luck searching? |

More info may point us in the right direction: Q1. Which version of Win10 is this running on, and how much memory is in the system? Q2. At the time of the upgrade from 9.15, were there any other changes made? Q3. Is the freeze a playback issue, or was it recorded that way? Q4. What's being used to view the video when it freezes? (HD200/300 extender? Sage Client? Is the Client on the same machine as the server?) Q5. Does the video playback also freeze when viewed using some other software, such as VLC? Q6. Is the freeze repeatable (does it occur in exactly the same spot in a given recording)? Q7. What happens if the original video file is copied to another file (with a different name) and played back (both thru Sage and VLC)? Q8. What else is Sage doing during the freezes (playback on other clients, recording other shows, etc)? Q9. Does the freeze also occur when playing back imported videos (content not recorded by Sage)?

Does this occur during normal playback or is this occurring when you are skipping forwards or backwards?

During normal playback... have reverted to ver 9.15 the problem exists but is far less significant. I also can reconnect with sage client which does not seem to work on the newer versions |

Thanks for the reply below is the answers to your questions again thanks for the help BTW the other issue is sage client does not reconnect to the server when the client returns from sleep it worked instantly in 7.19 in 9.15 it takes 2 minutes to reconnect in 9.18 it never reconnects Q1. Which version of Win10 is this running on, and how much memory is in the system? ver 1703 cor i7-4770k 16gb ram Q2. At the time of the upgrade from 9.15, were there any other changes made? no Q3. Is the freeze a playback issue, or was it recorded that way? no I can rewind and it does not freeze in that spot so it is a playback issue Q4. What's being used to view the video when it freezes? (HD200/300 extender? Sage Client? Is the Client on the same machine as the server?) same machine as the server Q5. Does the video playback also freeze when viewed using some other software, such as VLC? Not tried that Q6. Is the freeze repeatable (does it occur in exactly the same spot in a given recording)? no Q7. What happens if the original video file is copied to another file (with a different name) and played back (both thru Sage and VLC)? not tried Q8. What else is Sage doing during the freezes (playback on other clients, recording other shows, etc)? it is recording other shows as it has been doing for years I only moved to ver 9 in July because of the EPG never had any problems with 7.19 Q9. Does the freeze also occur when playing back imported videos (content not recorded by Sage)? I usually do not do this so this has not been tested I have reverted back to 9.15 and there is minor freezing in playback nothing like in 9.18 and I never had any in 7.19. since this is on the sage server the 1st thing I check was the hard drives sage and the os are on an ssd but the data/programs are on 2 3tb drives. the problem seems to be with version 9 since on 7 I do not have the problem btw I reverted to an old install of 7 to test and it works fine Last edited by mitchcecg; 11-21-2017 at 04:01 PM. |

When you upgrade the Sage Server, do you also upgrade the client? Both must be exact same version else you will have problems.

No smoking guns, so far.
The next time a playback freeze is encountered, note the time. Then capture sagetv_*.txt and sagetvclient_*.txt files and post them here, along with the time the freeze occurred.

The logs show connections from two clients. The first one connects @ 10:51:27.390 from IP addr 192.168.16.57, running full-screen. The second client connects @ 10:53:05.673 from IP 192.168.16.67. Then at approx 11:01:25.647, the 2nd client encounters a DX9 error. DirectX controls video rendering, so this indicates an issue with video codecs or the drivers for that client's video card.
Are the latest video drivers from the mfgr installed? Don't rely on Windows to automagically keep these up to date. Often the mfgr has newer versions than Micro$oft.

the server and the client are the same machine that I am having issues with
that is 192.168.16.57. I have many issues since ver 9 of sage I went back to ver 7 and all works great except no program guide. issues with ver 9 are video stuttering and freezing. cannot connect to a ver 9 client on a computer that has returned from sleep with ver 9 running. slow response to key presses on remote clients IE other computers on the same network running sage client. Since I just tested with ver 7 and it works fine I must assume there are software issues. is there a way to go back to 7 and use schedules direct with it if not (i am not a programmer) how do I get 9 to work correctly or at least as good as 7 THANKS BTW again sorry for delayed response (personal stuff) Last edited by mitchcecg; 12-27-2017 at 03:25 PM. |

The pausing then catching up symptom is similar to what I saw on 9.1.7 using HD300 extenders. I assumed it was a java memory issue. I've reverted back to 9.1.1.651 and don't see this issue anymore.
