hauppauge 2250 & 2255 in linux server
Just wondering if anyone here is successfully using these cards in linux. If so what version of linux , linux kernel, & card driver version? I would like to get my sagetv setup working in linux. for now am using trusty win 10 setup but prefer to shift over to completely linux. failed efforts so far to get the cards successfully recognized & running in linux mint 18.2

I have the 2250 running in an unRAID 6.3.2 environment, although only the digital tuners, not the analog. I tried to get the analog tuners working, but I gave up after a little while, since there was only one channel I wanted anyhow (that was not available in a digital format).
The key for me was realizing that the 2250 is shown as a "Digital Samsung S5H1411 QAM/8VSB" within unRAID. Evidently the chip used in the 2250 is a Samsung.

I have both the 2250 and 2255 working with the SageTV Docker on unRAID and the DVB plugin. They both work well but channel scans on the 2255 take between 2 and 4 times longer than the 2250 does. The 2250 show up like reported above as Samsung tuner. The 2255s show up as LG tuners specifically the "LGDT3306A VSB/QAM".

I'd like to also move to an unraid system using docker images sometime next year. Can anyone think of advantages or reasons that I might want to replace my 2250's with something like external HDHR Quatro?

Well being Hardware Encoder doesn't work under Docker is that right ?.
What about WinTV quad-HD wouldn't that be better alternative ?. |

With 2250s you have to install the DVB plugin on unRAID to provide the drivers for the tuners. If you use a network based tuner like the HDHomerun you don't need the plugin. Which would also mean you can use your PCIe slots for something else like maybe multiple controllers for unRAID drives. I first used SAS expanders and then switched to LSI-9201-16i controllers to keep more PCIe slots available for my 2250 tuners on my unRAID servers. If I only used HDHR tuners I would have all PCIe slots available for controllers or VMs.

Taking another stab at this with linuxmint 18.3 using the 4.13 kernel. I cant seem to get Sagetv to see more than one card. I have 2 of the 2255s installed.
Works fine on the win 10 side but would like to get this working on the linux side. What additional steps do I need to take when running multiple cards? |
