possible impact of java licensing change?
Saw this when I updated my java
https://www.java.com/en/download/release_notice.jsp With most of the players in content suppliers weather data etc starting to charge for access will we have to go to a paid software license or subscription model to cover costs? I think that it would violate the open source licensing. Thoughts? |

I think for end users nothing should change. Looks like Java 8, if anyone is still using it by 2020 will still be receiving consumer updates till then. Developers of SageTV will need to use OpenJDK.
IMHO, to me it seems Oracle is attempting to refocus Java as an Enterprise technology. Possibly part of a response to the Oracle/Android legal debacle.

They are trying to monetize it, I get cold calls for support contracts all the time about it.
