Windows sagetv client how to change java version it uses
I'm in a pickle.
I reinstalled sagetv. It installed java 1.8. Then I found I could not download and install any plugins So I uninstalled java 1.8. Server works fine on 1.7 but client says error creating JVM. I tried uninstalling SageTV and reinstalling. But sagetv client still thinks its got no JVM. |

Thank for reply.
I cannot see a FAQ that helps though. Could you spell it out for me please? |

https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/sho...802#post346802 Start reading 4. 5. 6. Q: How do I update Java on my Windows PC? A: Exit SageTV and any other application using Java, uninstall the old version of Java, then install the new version. Before installing a Java update, exit SageTV: If the SageTV UI is open, close it. If closing it puts the SageTV icon in the system tray, right click on the icon and choose Exit SageTV. If using service mode, stop and disable the service. This can be done using the SageTVServiceControl.exe utility, found in the SageTV install directory or in Windows' Start -> All Programs -> SageTV, or by running Windows' services.msc service manager. If the SageTVServiceControl.exe utility is open, close it too once the service has been stopped. Close any other applications that are using Java. This may include internet browsers. Uninstall any previous versions of Java. Advanced Java users may not need to do this, but it is recommended for simplicity. If installing Java version 7 or later, be sure to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable runtime files. Install the new version of Java. There are various sites where Java can be installed, including: java.sun.com/getjava java.com Re-enable SageTV's service mode, if you are using it, and restart SageTV.

Michael make sure you download the 32 bit run times.

Just to be clear.
I had a long running working system with java 1.7 and sagetv 7.1.9. Had some issues. Decided to uninstall sagetv, deleted SageTV dir, Reinstall sageTV. Somehow it decided to upgrade to java 1.8 even though I already had java 1.7. SageTV client and server both ran with 1.8 but I could not install any plugins - nothing would download from sourceforge. So I decided to uninstall sagetv, uninstall all versions of java. Reboot. Install a version of java, reinstall sagetv. And sagetv client still will not run even though server does. Normally java is in the PATH and thats how the verison to be used is selected. Its obviously not happening for the client here. There must be some registry entry or something! |

BTW - Thanks for your replies.
You're talking to a desperate man :-) Family come home in 1 hour and I've screwed the TV. I think I already have the microsoft code as I have not removed those since my working system. I've uninstalled everything, restarted, installed. Sagetv should not be retaining any memory of of where java was last time it was installed. Last edited by michaeldjcox; 02-05-2017 at 09:23 AM. |

Fixed it.
Prompted by your hints I chose to go to add/remove programs and to repair the MS C++ runtime and then rebooted when prompted. All is now fine. Thanks for your help. Michael |
