I get the feeling that if silicondust doesn't get their crap together, that their Premium TV service will not be around much longer.

I get the feeling that Omniverse is a snake-oil vendor that conned SD. While I don't agree with how the forums are moderated when I visit, (lots of deleted / censored things and locked posts it seems), I think from what I've seen (no expert on video stuff) that SD has some sharp people trying to do right. The couple times I've asked for support were promptly answered too which is nice.

I've pretty much given up on SD PTV as an option to get off Comcast, but that's because I don't trust their upstream provider anymore and not the SD staff.

I agree with most everything you mentioned, Karyl, but this last stunt they pulled where they posted in their "health/status" thread that everyone would have a $10 a month credit for the missing channels - then quietly removed that message and put billing right back up to the original price - that's just dirty business to do to such a small community. They have added nothing to the service but have lost 15% of their channels, maybe more if you consider that a number of those lost channels were high value to their service.

You can see how happy everyone was with that surprise;

I saw they were going to give a credit for the duration of the "outage", but didn't know they pulled it. That's unfortunate.

They are still giving Credit but it is not automated you have to file a support ticket .. Silicondust is great on hardware but they lack people skills and communication skills. I have suggested that they reduce the price to $24.99 until they get the other channels back. There billing system is a mess.

In fairness, I should update this - someone from SD did eventually show up in that thread and indicate that they know there is a problem and that they will issue the credits without user intervention.

HDHomeRun PremiumTV forum refugee here...

Funny since about the time the $10 credit SNAFU 2 weeks ago the support crew on the forum has been silent on any of the systemic issues. Folks are pissed off and getting more vocal. You'd think they'd at least be able to bill people properly.

I suspect SD's management had this brilliant idea for leveraging HDHR hardware to bring us HDP while out for drinks one night. Or Omniverse approached them with the idea, "streaming is gonna be huuuge!" Tech guys jumped on it, made it happen. But the business side wasn't ready for administering, billing,or contracting the service. Thus the mess today.

And I also agree Omniverse seems a bit shady. Based on a few articles I've read, it seems like they only exist because of a loophole in a cable-distribution contract. That may not end well...

The issues are a real shame because the HDHR + HDP is pretty slick.

It will be interesting to see if Silcondust immediately terminates its streaming service.

This is a serious bummer. I was hoping they would resolve these issues and get that system back to good.

I have to believe that with the time, money, and effort invested in getting the streaming service up like this that they would be hunting for a new service option. I wonder if anything like it even exists at their level. I'd be willing to pay more for a better service option. *Anything* to provide some option other than cable tv that can be easily integrated into Sage.

Actually, if they really are looking to keep their service running as they state in the article, that's probably the most positive thing I've read in months with regard to Silicondust.
