Plex Lifetime - plusses and minuses?

Plex is having a special on Lifetime.
Anybody have any opinions on that, is it good, a waste of money, is everything included under Lifetime you need?
I've never been able to understand what's good about it, for the regular price, but a sale is a sale, as they say.

Plex Pass gives you access to all the apps.

This pages lists the "premium" stuff.

I have a plex pass lifetime membership but I bought many years before it got stupid expensive.

do you use many of the Lifetime features? I mainly watch things recorded on my Sage server. There may be some value to the live tv / dvr function? Have you tried that?

I have not tried the DRV or recording, but I have used the Cloud Sync feature when I was traveling a lot. That worked great.

I use the android and ios apps to download content my phone/tablet when I travel. But for the most part, it is used locally, via the web by my kids.

I moved away from SageTV to Plex awhile back and have been very happy with it. I don't seem to ever get the Lifetime discount emails, so I've been paying the yearly Plex Pass for the last two years and will probably just suck it up and pay the full lifetime when this current year is up.

I make use of the sync option since my data signal sucks at work. That one really depends on your device though as my old iPhone never had space to sync. After upgrading I found myself using the sync feature a lot more since I have space now

The DVR has been rock solid for me so far (more solid than SageTV was with my HDHomerun Prime). I do post-processing with MCEBuddy to convert to MP4, commercials and everything. I don't do any commercial cutting though since their only option is "all or nothing".. they don't support commercial flagging and my previous experience with Comskip tells me that it will cut content when it shouldn't with my luck. That's on my list of things to play around with though since you can enable it by show which should make it easier to set up for shows with clear commercial breaks/logos for example.

I don't remember if the camera upload is still a Plex Pass feature but I use that on both my phone and my wife's to sync pictures locally. Saves me the cost of upgrading iCloud space and keeps all the photos under my control.

HW Acceleration is a pretty nice perk also. It makes more sense for me to run Plex on a separate HP 800 SFF with an i5 for Quicksync than to run it on my storage server that only has a Xeon X3440 in it. Really need to upgrade that storage server when I get some funds

I got a plex pass lifetime deal a year or two ago for really cheap. I only use plex for two things and it's totally worth it to me.
1. Watching all my content remotely (plex server runs on the same pc as sage, and plex is pointed to all the appropriate folders), and
2. We're probably the only people in the world with an Amazon echo (and a few dots) who don't have Prime (piggyback off my sister in law which gets us 2 day shipping but no music or video)... I refuse to pay a monthly fee for streaming music when we own tens of thousands of dollars worth of music from decades of collecting, all of which is ripped and neatly organized on the same server as plex and sage. And since Amazon pulled the plug on allowing you to upload your own MP3s, there was no way to get that collection onto the echo... until plex was integrated. Now I just say "Alexa, ask plex to play..." and my entire music catalog is available via voice command.

Cool thing with mp3 action. Is Lifetime necessary for that? Do you remember how cheap it was?

You should look into the My Media skill for Alexa. https://www.mymediaalexa.com/

It lets Alexa play music from your local server and is only $5 a year.

I saw that skill. Then I saw that Plex was integrated into Alexa, and, well, I already had lifetime Plex, so...

And tvmaster, sorry, I don't know about what's required for the Alexa skill use, and I honestly don't remember the cost, but I feel like it was $39 or $49. It was the biggest sale I'd seen, might have been their anniversary or something? I figured it was less than a month of cable (which I haven't paid for since cutting the cord in 2008), so would be worth it. It has been, even though our house really doesn't consume that much media. Of course if (when) we consume more as my kids get older, it will still be there. My kids already figured out adding "ask plex to" for music, soon they'll be using it for video (once they become better readers!)

Alexa does an OK job of playing music, but Sonos is SO much better. And there is a Sonos skill for Alexa.

I bought a few Sonos speakers years ago based on a recommendation in these forums and it's been one of the best tech buys I have ever made.
