native Linux support for Happauge Cards ATSC has arrived!
Today when I started to setup Sage I found a pleasant discovery!
1- install cards go to http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/suppo...ort_linux.html to add the linux mediatree custom kernel 4.15.43+++ in ubuntu based distros ( i'm using LinuxMint Tara) 1b boot into custom kernel 2- install w_scan from ubuntu registry * Learn more at http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/.../w_scan.1.html 3- Generate a channel frequency list for atsc using instructions in posted link I haven't had a chance to test this with Sagetv yet. I know the biggest issue was not being able to get a scan lock to discover channels. I think we are in the home stretch! No more need to do a VM of Windows version to access tuning. I got the Hauppauge WinTV-QuadHD to tune natively in Linux! yeehaw! Now to remember & figure out how to configure the rest of the setup so I can retire the win 10 server.
PS the W_scan was to determine the Atsc tuner would scan & find channels. Not needed after. |

Yes I would also like to know if this can be installed to run the HD PVR 2 natively in unraid instead of running a windows VM for it.

All I know is this is our link for working drivers & firmware. https://github.com/b-rad-NDi/Ubuntu-...kernel-builder
Brad is probably the guy to ask more about this. From comments there it looks like we may get straight Debian support down the line as opposed to ubuntu version. Looks like stable functioning is stll a crapshoot. I am just happy to be able to get atsc tuner functioning in Linux. Knowing about the W_Scan tool has been a helpful tool for troubleshooting channel frequencies. I am a learn as I go Linux newbie. Every bit helps! lol Last edited by Galaxysurfer; 01-11-2019 at 11:02 AM. |

Unless you have the first HD-PVR model there not going to be any support for the HD-PVR 2 nor Colossus 2
No body has rewitten the open source HD-PVR 2 user space app driver code in to a standerd V4L2 compatible driver. Last edited by SHS; 01-11-2019 at 03:24 PM. |

But as I said HD-PVR 2 will not be done by them as it come form kernellabs do you recall the HDPVRCapture application for Mac. If unzip the tar ball you find source code for HD-PVR 2 in it. There is a wrapper you can look at https://github.com/jpoet/HauppaugeUSB |

Sorry if I was a year late & a $1 short. lol I could never get the tuners to behave in Linux. I think the last update helped the cause. It would be nice if we could get updated scripts for pci tuners now! hint hint

Don't appreciate the tone SHS Not everyone is technologically savy. It is what turns off new users without the knowledge or skills to run Sagetv. I appreciate the efforts by those offering scripts for Docker & Unraid etc. trying to help the Linux challenged users. I started using Sagetv Win version back at version 4. I for the most part have avoided using an Ubuntu based distro for security reasons. Since the patches for the atsc cards haven't made it into main stream kernels yet the cards wouldn't behave with what i was using. I had previously asked about the cards in Linux almost 1 year ago, but nobody replied. I finally bit the bullet & tried again using Ubuntu + custom kernel, hence it worked. Pci cards wont work in vm as far as i know due to the driver issues. I didnt want to go the usb tuner route. Please consider the skillset of new users for Sagetv. As it is, it is only attracting hard core coder/ programmer types with pre-existing skills & knowledge to install & configure hardware & software. I have done my part in telling future htpc users about the existence of Sagetv. How they are helped here determines if they will come onboard & stay. I don't want to see Sagetv die out. I am glad we are going to get Win 64 bit. With the state of win 10 spyware it is something I dont want to continue using though, hence the attempt to work in Linux.
