SageTV linux dependents

I am attempting to reinstall Sagetv in my preferred distro & running into issues. Is Sagetv dependent on systemd? I am running a non systemd distro.

That's in the startup script. You can delete it if you don't want to see the warning.

okay I am attempting to install Sagetv server on MX Linux. Main issue am coming up against is systemd dependence. MxLinux uses SystVinit not systemD as default boot init. ( dont want to use systemd if can avoid it) I have resolved my Hauppauge linux driver issues by using 4.19 kernel in Mx Linux. (mediatree mods seems to be finally trickling into mainline kernels now) Kaffeine runs better than in Ubuntu/LinuxMint. How can I deal with init issues so can successfully install Sagetv on Mx Linux? So far been using the deb to install without success.

insserv: warning: current stop runlevel(s) (0 1 6) of script `sagetv' overrides LSB defaults (0 1 6 S). is the error message it gives me.

here is terminal window when i start deb install

Selecting previously unselected package sagetv-server.
(Reading database ... 460542 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack .../sagetv-server_9.1.10_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking sagetv-server (9.1.10) ...
Setting up sagetv-server (9.1.10) ...
insserv: warning: current stop runlevel(s) (0 1 6) of script `sagetv' overrides LSB defaults (0 1 6 S).
Restarting SageTV Server: sagetvChanging to SageTV directory /opt/sagetv/server
Changing to SageTV directory /opt/sagetv/server
.
cat: activkey: No such file or directory
Executing pre-scripts
Starting server mode
Main is starting
Saving properties file to Sage.properties
Done writing out the data to the properties file

it hangs at this point since something can't complete

That is not a fatal error. It just means a symbolic link is missing or your script "default stop" setting is wrong, (it's at the top). I've never heard of run level S so maybe just remove the S from the run level list at the top of the initial script. Or if you have an /etc/rcS.d directory add a symbolic link in there to the init script. Or use a tool to set things up. On RedHat I seem to remember it was chkconfig.

It's been a while since I've used SysV, sorry, but this is just a warning and not a huge deal. You've got the important run levels in there...

i did get it installed when using systemd mode. I would like a solution so i can go back to using preferred systVinit mode. any suggestions? I could ask in mxlinux forum as well. I figured i would have better results here since there are users with my hardware, not necessarily so in mxlinux forum.

main thing was getting install to complete. It doesn't when in sysvinit mode.

I did locate the mentioned file. just not sure how to modify it. Mxlinux is a debian based distro based on sysvinit rather than systemd like most of the other distros. it is user friendly like mint but does things a bit differently - focused on security & privacy.

after a bit of poking around the net that error message refers to ntp.
