Not playing new recodes

Having another problem with imported videos. I recently started using an up to date version of Handbrake to recode dvd's. Recode completes ok, and the configuration looks identical to my older version. But it won't play in Sage. It generates a thumbnail, so I assume it can read the file, and timebar shows correct length of video(but play time doesn't advance). I can skip into any part of the file, but it still won't play. A look at task mgr shows the cpu doing something, but no network activity(remote drive). I can stop playback, and do anything else in Sage I want to. I've tried 3 different videos so far w/same results.
The funny thing is the first dvd I recoded a few weeks ago does play. Mediainfo doesn't show anything different between the two. Tried this on two Sage servers, the 2nd one a new build. Funniest part is this file plays just fine in VLC.

I'm including two log files, both extracts from the sage log file.
First is STIII Log 1.txt - Video that doesn't play.
Second is AK Log Play OK.txt which plays fine.
I can't find any difference between the two, but maybe a different set of eyes.
Thanks for any help.

The only difference I noticed was the working one lists the AC3filter in the Directshow filters. Is there an audio format difference between them?

Here's what mediainfo says about both files. Nothing obvious to me.

The broken one is 720x406-24fps versus 720x480-30fps on the working one.

Were they converted using the same handbrake settings?

I don't have the log file from the working one, but I still have the dvd. Recoded a sample and now that won't play. There's a new update to HB, so I'll install that and play around with parameters but for the life of me don't know which one would cause such a difference.

I'll post what I find but keep any ideas coming.
Cheers

edit: I typically see a variety of frame rates, 24 and 30 most common. What gets me is I thought the AK video was straight to dvd, but it also mentions NTSC, which suggests a TV show, initially. The STIII was a film from the start.:scratchin' head:

An upgrade to HB seems to fix things. I've tried the same, and different parameters, but all seem to play.

Of course, now that I've said it, it'll act up again.
