Schedule (not guide) failing to update

I've been having an issue with my recording schedule for over a year. My schedule will populate when I restart SageTV, but won't update after that. My guide does update. I can look ahead for 2 weeks or more on the guide. I set my recording schedule to schedule for 1 week. I've been running a scheduled task to reboot the server on Monday morning as a workaround. Does anyone have an idea what could cause this behavior?

Here I'm running out of stuff to record since it's about 8 hours before the clock runs out. It's barfing up a lot of old data for some reason, shows that were recorded years ago.

So there is a nextTTA for each tuner you have. The ones with nothing scheduled have that big number but the other two show ok. In your log file from a couple posts above, it shows that large number for "Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD ATSC Tuner 2" but the log file cuts off before the others. If you look for "MARK 1" you can see the tuner name and the following nextTTA line refers to that tuner.

So if you can, keep an eye on the "Seeker in AUTOMATIC mode / nextTTA" lines. As each queued show records per tuner, the next one in line should appear there. Similarly the lines with "MUST SEE FINAL" should show you all of the upcoming scheduled shows per tuner. Keep checking that section in your log file, especially as the week progresses to see if any new shows get added to the end.

You may have to check daily up to the point where the future recordings start to dry up. When your recording schedule of upcoming shows is relatively small, perhaps make a list of exactly what shows are scheduled, which ones should be and we can compare to the log file. You can also compare the per-tuner schedule within the SageTV GUI versus the log file. I assume right now the GUI recording schedule slowly runs out of shows until you reboot? If so, the issue isn't with the "nextTTA' logic but the scheduler itself not adding the shows to "must see".

Perhaps Narflex can chime in here on how this works and what pitfalls there are.

I also see in the code that you can set:

Nothing new gets added until I reboot unless I did something manually. Where do I find the per-tuner schedule? (OK, per-tuner is in the log, not the GUI, got it.)

I've found that if I add a new favorite, it will be added to the schedule queue even if it's outside the the window of my other scheduled recordings.

Per tuner can be found in the Recording Schedule / Parallel Schedule menu in the GUI.

Keep looking at the log file as I mentioned above. Somewhere there should be a clue when it goes off the rails.

What are you using for firewall? Are you using the default software that is included in Win 10? That is the first place I would look to make sure the epg
updater isn't blocked. Do you have a subscription to SchedulesDirect or are you just using the default OTA which is about 8 hrs ahead only?

The EPG updates fine. I can scroll through the EPG grid and see a couple weeks of shows. The recording schedule runs for however many days I set it to run, but doesn't update after it runs out of days. It just counts down to zero and stops. I have it set to run for a week. I use Schedules Direct. What is this default OTA? The old free service was shut down years ago.

I did find 2 rules that affect SageTV. One blocks port 7760, the other blocks "any" (!).

If I had to guess, I would think there is probably one favorite that is causing the scheduler to choke for some reason.

As a test you could try blowing away your wiz.bin and wiz.bak files and letting Sage create new ones (be sure to back these up first). This will remove all your favorites as well as your watched history and some other stuff. You could then re-create some favorites and see if they record correctly.

I could be wrong, but I have some vague recollection of a problem if Sage found too many upcoming airings of a particular favorite. I kind of remember this being more likely to be triggered if you had extended the look-ahead period for the scheduler. Actually that’s something else you may want to take a look at (try reducing the number of days out into the future the scheduler tries to schedule).

I was thinking it's a problem with favorites. I've been picking through it and removing favorites, maybe the nuclear option is the way to go. Have a look at this log excerpt:

It looks like it's giving up on resolving conflicts and just quits trying to schedule. I will try chopping the look-ahead down to 2 days and see if that does anything.

Yet when you reboot it works, right? I’m not sure how that changes anything unless there are “leftovers” from the previous schedule processes in memory. I’ll look into the code a bit more for these specific messages to see if there’s a clue in there.

Yes, it refreshes my schedule on every reboot. I've been rebooting every week with a scheduled task. I removed the favorites for Big Bang Theory and Ancient Aliens reruns yesterday. This seems to have eliminated the error, but I don't see the schedule expanding yet.
