Yes, I double checked just now that both are installed. On both pcs the client and server are installed with the windows X64 versions. Sage is the X64 install. I was on 1.8.351 java on the client so I just brought that up to .361 to match the server version. I have tried a couple different shows that record OTA and did the converts. I will try using "faster" preset this time on a jeopardy version from last night.

I want to use the slowest preset once I get this sorted out to make compress the video as much as possible for the cellular side download. -Bill

On another note, after Java gets updated how do I make sure that special java file that gets installed with the plugin is still there, not overwritten by the update? I don't even know the name of that file yet, I am assuming its a .jar file.

That is a question for the developers maybe they can chime in... it would be great to know what OS your Clients are using hopefully not XP.

The desktop I am testing is running on Windows 11. But I just went over and tested two transcoded shows that do not work on my Windows Client, but the DO work on my nv Shield running the Joshes mini client.

I hadn't thought to go over and test that...

And the Jeopardy transcode still doesn't work on the windows client. Drat. I will need to setup an Android emulator so I can test without going out to the living room and turning all that on. I will need to test on the newer shield version in the RV this afternoon after I transfer the files over there.

Since you are using windows 11 have you tried the Microsoft decoders instead of LAV ?

Any idea what thats called? Googling around finds a lot of things, but nothing that looks correct. Looked in the MS Store, and find nothing in the old programs and features menu to install builtin stuff.

Changed it to that dvd choice on the server and the win10 server plays it but the win11 client on my pc doesn't. I even downloaded the win dvd trial and didn't matter. We try to figure out an Android emulator, I never watch this stuff on my pc but it always used to work when testing. These are only going to be used on a Shield and Chromecast device. -Bill

Thanks for getting me this far.

You might want to take a look at BlueStacks Android Emulator. It has the PlayStore.

@nplayer During some transcoding testing to see which transcoding worked best my VerySlow preset failed immediately. I traced it back to it having --preset veryslow instead of 1 dash in front of it. I looked at your pasted code and I don't see it. But figured I'd mention it in case it gets back into yours. -Bill

Thanks Again for all your help with this.

PS. I am seeing the oddest results in my testing. The VeryFast preset makes the Smallest files. I would have thought all the slows would have done that. I am going back and retesting each with the exact same file to doublecheck, but VeryFast again reduced it to 44% of the original file size where the others were over 50%

VeryFast seems like is the way to go that is what Plex and Emby use.

VeryFast it is! Just seems odd to me. During my googling around, others have documented the exact same thing. Oh, and there is an UltraFast Preset. -Bill

This is interesting. Is there a way to get thermometers back on with MKV compression? I've been using it almost exclusively, Medium speed.

you can if you do not want to keep the original audio. Keeping original audio works but thermometer doesn't ... just remove the -c copy ... then your audio will be transcoded to AAC.
Code:
transcoder/formats/MKV-H264Medium\ MKV=f\=matroska;MCompressionDetails\=-preset medium -c\:v libx264;

OK, I think I'll keep the original audio then. Thanks!
