SageTV 2.1 not tuning
Hi,
SageTV V2.0 worked perfectly for many months yet but once I try to install SageTV V2.1 RC7,8,9 and to not get the PVR-350 tuning... The only thing I see is a black screen. I tried to change the Country code to 32, 44, 30 (I'm in Belgium) without success. I read in another thread that Frey suggests to use counry code 30 but it does not change anything. I upgraded to the latest Java version: Sage hangs quite often. Has someone any suggestion? Thanks for your help... Ferdinand

Are you sure that the 'Sage Service' is not running in the background when you make your changes?

I do not run sage as a service. And the sage.properties file is updated well...
So there's another problem Thanks Ferdinand

I know it doesn't help you much, but I don't have any problems with 2.1 (and brutele)... I am using my registry hack to redefine all the frequencies, so the country code setting (which is used to select which frequency table to use) is only really used for setting which PAL version...
If you are also using this registry hack, as a fallback, export the registry key with the frequency definitions, and then delete it... Check country code is 32 and reboot... You should be back to using the default frequency table, so all your channel mappings will be wrong, but you might be able to find some channels... (the registry key is mentioned in my Snapstream article on the custom channel order hack) Other things to try... delete and recreate your source, checking that you are selecing Cable... (backup wiz.bin and sage.properties first so you can fall back if it doesnt help)... Also try removing wiz.* and sage.properties* completely (after backing up!) and reconfigure from scratch... You never know, one of these might work! Niel |

I had the same problem
This problem drove me crazy.. I installed 2.1 Beta5 and things worked.. for a while.. then I noticed Sage was no longer tuning!! I downloaded and installed the newest Hauppauge drivers (the drivers that come with the new PVR-150 card), completely removed Sage (saving the properties and .bin files).. re-installed Sage 2.0, verified it was tuning again, upgraded to the 2.1B6 version and all is well again.
Hopefully it won't go out again on me... Not sure if the new drivers fixed the problem, or the re-install of sage fixed it.. |

I've done many things you've written but, anyway, I'll try again. If it does not work, I'll format my HD (but i'd like to avoid it ;-) )
Thanks for your advices. I'll keep you posted. ferdinand

I have not been able to use both of my tuners since installing the first beta release of V2.1. I have an Adaptec videoh PCI card, and a Hauppauge PVR250MCE. Under Sage 2.0, both cards were working fine, but now Sage will only control the Adaptec card, I can control the PVR250 with the WinTV app, but Sage will not control this card.
I have removed and reinstalled everything, including a complete reformat and reinstall of XP. Does anyone have any idea? |

I am having the same problem. Everything works fine with Sage 2.0 but when I tried 2.1 RC9 Sage could not tune any stations. Sage thinks it chaged the channeld (the osd updates, and a new file is recorded) but the PVR-250 card does not actually change. I can go to the wintv application and change the channels.
I went back to sage 2.0 and everything works fine. I just tried 2.1 release and again I can't change channels! I think I have the latest hauppauge drivers. I am running windows xp pro with Service Pack 2 Any ideas? |

In the Sage.properties look for "mmc/always_tune_channel" is it false or true try edit and switch it be sure SageTV not runing before edit your properties files and if have any other "always_tune_channel" try remove them if did upgrade.

I am having this exact same problem. At first I thought it was just a problem with the MVPclient, but it was just a coincidence as I installed the MVPclient at the same time that I upgraded to 2.1. One of my tuners works fine, but the other gets stuck on one channel and will not change through Sage. The OSD will change, i.e. it will show channel 7 in the OSD but the tuner is still tuned to channel 6. This happens both in LiveTV mode and on a scheduled recordings. It will also happen both on the server and the client depending on which thread is using the stuck tuner. I have tried setting "mmc/always_tune_channel" in the properties file to true and unfortunatley it did not help. Any other ideas? Thanks for your help.

Running winXP SP1, Using PVR250 to tune basic cable.
Updated all Hauppauge drivers. Updated Java. Removed all of SageTV and installed from scratch. Let it create new preferences/win.biz/etc... Still NOT tuning...wife going to be very very upset if I don't fix it... Any suggestions? I tried to go back to a backup and it failed for some java exception. I need to get something working asap... |

I have tried almost everything you mentioned, Java update, latest Hauppauge drivers, deleting Properties and wiz.bin and I have had no luck. Both of my tuners work fine with GBpvr, so I don't think it is a Hauppauge driver issue. This looks like a new bug introduced with 2.1 unfortunately. I have PMed Narflex to see if we can get some attention for this issue. I will fill out a support request tomorrow if he has not responded.

When I reverted back to the 2.0 version I was able to get rid of the Java exception by deleting the SageTV folder before installing.

Hello Frey???? Has anyone figured out why we can't tune our Hauppauge's?
I had tons of stuff recorded, or so I thought. After reading this thread I went and checked and EVERYTHING since In installed the release version is recording channel 4 (NBC). Win 98SE Hauppauge PVR-250 (older one with the heat sink on one of the chips) Cable straight into the PVR-250 with no box so I'm using the bult in tuner. Somewhere inside Sage it must be tuning because when I go to WinTv it comes up with whatever the last channel I had tuned in WinTv when I last shut it down, yet when I go back to Sage it always reverts back to channel 4. So I've lost 4 days of programming now. I'll try to revert back to the last version that was working properly. <sigh> The Sage properties file looks identical to the one I saved off before I installed the release version.

Man I sure do appreciate all this fallin on the sword stuff
I really do appreciate everyone's efforts trying this new stuff out and screaming for help / telling us what's happening.
When it does finally get calm (after a release) I'll assume it's finally stable -- or maybe Everyone will be sitting on the fence!! (naah, someone will take the plunge) Yes, I'm a wus. TW |

I had this problem also. Edit your sage.properties file. Look for the line that reads: "mmc/always_tune_channel=" and make sure it's false.
This setting was supposed to control if back to back shows on the same channel needed a channel change. When it's set to true it causes this "blank live tv screen" problem some of us have had. Just in case this doesn't work for you try the following. Shut down the SageTV interface and service. Then move the sage.properties AND the backup file (important) out of your SageTV directory (for safe keeping). Restart SageTV and let it auto generate a new properties file. Go in and setup a new tuner. Don't worry about making it perfect but just make sure you have a few channels to test with. The defaults for you cable or sat box should be fine. (don't spend time on this as we're only doing a quick test). Now once you have setup a capture device try and see if you can view LiveTV and change channels. If this works you have some other issue in your properties file. If this works next try to copy your old sage.property file back and edit the file. Remove all lines that start with mmc/. Restart sage and setup a capture board again. If it works this time you've solved your problem and you'll want to set your channels back up the way you had them. You get the idea. I tried v2.1 without a properties file. It created them, I reselected everything, and it still didnt tune.
This thread has been going since Oct28...im a little peeved at the lack of response on this one. |

Have you tried doing an un-install. Renaming the Program Files/Frey directory and then doing a NEW 2.1 install/setup. Curious if this will work or not. This only takes 5 minutes to try.

Ill give it a shot and report back...
--- It didnt work. I uninstalled 2.0.19, deleted the directory, then installed 2.1 and set everything up. Same problem, for me its stuck on 24 which was the last channel I watched in 2.0.19. Last edited by ji0005; 11-07-2004 at 01:24 PM. |
