Are you importing it using SageMC STVi import not the default SageTV one.

I've tested it here and it's working fine. Can you do an import into the base SageMC_169.xml and post the resultant xml file so I can have a look at what might be going wrong.

You've got the Movie Times import loaded too and that is not only not imported properly, but because the themes for its Options Settings are not working it is preventing the display of the Captions Options.

I've fixed the bad Movie Times links in this STV, so it should all work for you. You should probably post over in the Movie Times thread about it not importing properly

New Version available for download

(1.2.2)
- More Fixes for Caption enabled status being reset by screensaver
- Changes to Caption Browsing

* Up/Down during playback = dynamic 500ms adjustments
* Up/Down Left/Right when paused = caption skip
* Select = save caption skip time
* Play, Play/Pause = resume play without save
* Stop = reset all the caption adjustments back to 0

There is also a setting in Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Customize -> Captions Playback Options -> More Options to enabled saving the caption adjustments using Play, Play/Pause

Just installed this latest version. There seems to be a bug when using caption skip mode. It seems to always start showing the first caption in the recording instead of the current caption when entering adjust mode.

I've updated the download, hopefully that will fix it.

I got this to work on my Sage client but it's not working on the HD Extender. It doesn't allow the option to set CC1 away from "off" in the playback menu to turn it on. (So maybe it does work, but I can't seem to turn it on).

The STVi imported fine. I'm using the default Sage menu. Any ideas?

Robert

You can't use embedded captions on the extender. See the FAQ.
Captions from an .smi file do work.

I was having problems with displaying my SMI captions, and upgraded to v122. I stopped SageTV completely, copied the files where they should be, restarted.

Now I get the 'You have an old version (null) of sagemc.jar installed. Please update to the latest verions!" error again. I did have that in the past and in thread there is an updated version (for VISTA).

On the MVP, loading the STV did get ride of that error. Strange was that he made a new SageMC_169-3.xml but did not load it. I had to do that extra step to load that new xml. After that, error was gone and Closed Captions worked. But on my HTPC I still got the error.

I did than replace the .jar's as suggested in above linked thread, and the error was gone (and close caption did still works on the MVP).

As I intend to re-install my HTPC (have played around with VISTA making a mess of it and also want to cleanly install SP1 - got now SP1RC installed) I'm not too worried on this. A brand new install should clean out the situation (I hope). Just wanted to let you know of this specific error I got. Maybe nothing at all to do with this STV .

Regards,

Jan

I'll change the install instructions. But for future reference, now that SageMC is doing version checking of the JAR file don't replace an existing JAR file in a SageMC installation.

The last couple replies conflict with each other. It works on an MVP, but not the HD Extender? And the link on the FAQ says it does not work in the standard configuration, but could with an add-on (like this, I assume).

Embedded Captions (closed captions that are part of the MPEG stream) don't work on either the MVP or HD Extender. You can display External Captions (.smi files) on both the MVP and HD Extender using this import.

Without going through the 15 pages (at least initially), can you tell me if there is a tool which extracts the captions from a recorded MPEG TV stream and makes them in .smi format? Thereby being able to watch recorded shows with CC after the fact?

Thanks, Robert

The first post has info and a link to mpg2srt and srt2smi.
I use ccextractorwin (ccextractor) which can output smi directly.

Has the "wheel" been invented to make Sage use ccextractor automatically?
