Cool... I didn't realize you were already getting them from .20. THought you were converting. I am trying to understand some o fth edifferences, and even modfiy it to see if I can get it to work manually (just because...) I love learning about the stuff...

Hopefully we will be able to get this working!

I am converting from .srt to .smi using srt2smi since native .smi files aren't working with the .stvi.

I'll probably never use digitally extracted CC in this manner, hoping for native digital CC support (support request sent). I just jazzed that I know for sure that the recorded digital stream does have CC.

Jack, see how this version works. Hopefully I haven't broken too much.

Tested it out real quick. Seems to work Ok. No obvious bugs.

native .smi files from CCextractor work after renaming the file by removing _1 from the end of the filename. Don't know if that variation on the name can be added to the .stvi to look for.

Still have some timing issues with some digital programming, but I'd guess that that is on the extractor side of things.

The name should be easy enough to do, hopefully I'll have that done by the time you've done a bit more testing. I'd just like to be sure I haven't broken anything.

Did a little more testing. Tried it with my older .smi files which were created with mpg2srt, srt2smi, and subtitle workshop. All looked good. Analog recordings from Ccextractor look good too.

Did find one thing, in imported videos, auto-CC on mute doesn't enable on mute, but will disable on un-mute. Auto-CC works fine in Sage Recordings.Nevermind, ignore this, my bad. I had it set to prefer the built-in captioning instead of the .smi captions.

Wow! You guys are fast! I will try out the new version tonight when I get home. Just got into work though and can't do it from here. ALthough when no ones looking...

I tested out Grey's Anatomy after modifying the ccextractor output for format and it works fine except for timing, so I am going to look a bit more into the timing bit.

Questionj for you John:

In testing, if I cam rendering the mpg file through SageTV and I get the "invalid File" error, can I turn off closed captions, edit/replace the /smi file and turn it on again to test? or do I need to stop the mpg and restart? or even restart SageTV? I just not sure if the .smi was being loaded into memory.

THanks so much for your work on this!

Jon

Jon, the .smi is getting loaded into memory and doesn't seem to get reset, so it seems to work best if you load a different file between .smi changes. It's something I need to look at to see if I can tidy that up.

if ccextractor doesn't work well for you guys...

Hi,

I'm carefully reading your posts and I see there are a few issues with ccextractor...

I'm actively working on it (it's still 0.20) so I'm very interesting in getting samples of videos it doesn't process correctly (or at all).

Also, if it seems to process the input files ok but the output has timing issues, format issues, etc, I'd like to know as well.

I really want ccextractor to be 100% reliable and plan to work on it until that's accomplished.

I've got some timing issues on some output files. I get
Quote:
Warning: Reference clock has changed abruptly (19337 seconds), attempting to syncronize
If if run the file through a QuickStream Fix in VideoReDo, I lose the warning, but the timing is still off, but by a different amount as before. If I use VideoReDo to cut out a sample, it remuxes the file so it isn't a cut of the original file, if that makes sense. What program can I use to cut a sample file that is "original stream", because otherwise we are talking aobut sending 500meg-6gig files, and that ain't gonna work.

I join the request for SageMC if at all possible.
Available for download on the first post

(1.1.0)
- Importable into SageMC 6.3.2c

The only thing not ported is the marker icons. I'll need to spend some time to understand how they work in SageMC.

Just confirming that 1.1.0 in SageMC is now reading my ShowAnalyzer 0.8.11 files. Of course, while it reads them fine, the timing of the file itself is wrong so it shows all the captions in the first 20 seconds. But that ain't your problem :-)

Thanks!!

Looks good.

One possible addition... would it be possible to have an option for auto-cc on mute to trigger both imbedded and .smi captions? I'm not normally extracting .smi if I already have imbedded CC in analog mpegs. I may extract CC from digital mpegs, but only until Sage supports that, if ever.
