Cool Is a P4 3GHz enough for OTA HD using the HDHomeRun

Hi all,

I've been trying out SageTV 6 using the trial on a PIII 1Ghz it's not bad but a little slow, and now I have the HD bug. So I'm planning to buy a new machine for myself and make my current box the PVR (And of course purchase Sage... I've been using my own custom app for 3 years now):

- P4 3Ghz (Northwood core)
- Asus P4P800 MB
- 2GB DDR ram
- BFG 7600GS

Will this be enough for HD? I downloaded some trailers from here:
http://www.drfoster.f2s.com/trailers_hd-dvd.shtml

And they seem to play fine - about 45% cpu or so full screen 1920x1200 (I can't really tell but I don't think there's any stuttering.. I think it's just the affects of the original 24fps... As it appears to play the same on a Core 2 Duo E6600)

FYI.. I'll be outputting to a Optoma HD72 (720p native resolution projector).

If I record a native OTA HD at 1080i will my PC be tanked trying to downsample it to 720p?

Thanks for the input. - Should I maybe order the HDHomeRUn first and try it out before doing the upgrade path? Will the Nvidia Decoders help?

Ben

Should be fine. I have a HDhomerun connected to my P4 2.53 x1600pro. The picture is perfectly smooth, as long as it's using the right decoder. For me, that's the Cyberlink decoder & overlay. For you, it's probably the Nvidia decoder.

Hi,

I get nice playback of OTA HD using a P4 3.0e and a 7600GT.

Can you use VMR9 overlay? As I really like the look of the transparent Sage Menu's... I guess if I can't it's not a huge deal.

Thanks

Ben

Hi,

Yes, VMR9/FSE. No problem.
