Stop Live/Recorded TV?

is there any way to STOP the playback of live or recorded shows? my kids always leave the SageTV running on live TV and my computer does not get to go to sleep. is there anything that will stop a playback of a show or live tv after so many minutes of inactivity? like 2 hours?

Take a look at the sleep timer plugin. Or teach your kids to hit the "stop" button on the remote.

Just did a search for that "sleep timer plugin" and it looks like one that allows you to say "go to sleep in 30-60-90 minutes from now with some menu input" after I fall asleep. I was looking for something more like. "if I leave a show running and have no remote or keyboard input stop the show playing and sleep the computer. or just stop the show and let the computer sleep itself."

maybe i missed that or got the wrong plugin

Are you running SageTV on the server or from a client or from an MVP/Placeshifter?

If your kids are using a full machine client or are watching the server, and you use a remote control supported by EventGhost you can do this easily.

Basically exactly as you requested, if nobody hits the remote for 3 hours it does whatever you like. In your case send SageTV a stop message and then IR to the TV to power off.

flachbar did make an auto-sleep timer that will sleep Sage if there is no input activity within a set time. Here's the thread, check out post 9 for the auto-sleep timer.
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23064 .

He didn't put a lot of time in it since it was for personal usage, but people begged and he released it as-is. It is listed as for the MVP, but it will work on the server, or client as well. It also only works in SageMC, not in the default UI, and it doesn't listen for all keypresses, only certain keypresses to reset the timer. Hopefully, he will have time to update it in the future.

I used to use his standard sleep timer, but since he posted the auto-sleep timer, I use it exclusively. It works great for turning off Sage after you go to sleep listening to the news or Leno/Letterman.
