LCD screen vs LCD TV ?

Hi,
I am about to buy hardware for a server, and waiting for the HD extender () for the LCD TV in the living room. But I have a hard time deciding what to buy for a screen for the bedroom.

As I understand it, the only(?) thing I will need/use in an LCD tv when connecting it to the HD extender is the actual display and the amplifier and speaker for the sound. No antenna, no switching between channels, no subtitles, no nothing... Just displaying content from the server (i e the HD extender). Am I correct?

So, why not buying a LCD monitor as for a computer? Are they not fit/made for viewing at 10 feet? Are they too good? (Isn't that good when talking about HD...)?
maybe to expensive for, let's say 26"?

Typically TVs are viewed much further away, 5-7 feet. Computer monitors are finer detailed with a higher "dot pitch" (i.e. the dots that make up the picture are smaller, more expensive to make) since they are designed to be viewed at a 12-18 inch distance.

Video walls look horrible up close (less than 20 feet) since the LEDs are as large as sugar cubes but past 50 feet start to look good.

Cheaper computer monitors may not support video inputs and may not be able to handle RGB or component inputs even though you can get component to VGA cables.

I know the 17" video monitor at work couldn't be driven past 1024x768 with a mac power book that supported up to 1600x???

I don't know what output connector the HD extender has. I would recommend getting a TV or monitor in the size you want that has the connector that the extender has. VGA or DVI or HDMI. As a last resort, use the S-video or video output.

My 17" LCD computer monitor looks tiny from 10 feet away.

I've been using a 720p Samsung rear-projection DLP TV with a PC based Sage client for a few years. It makes a great Sage display and PC monitor but, as with all rear-projection TV's part of the desktop is overscanned. I want one of the Sage HD extenders to use with it instead.

For the PC I've been looking at both the 28" Dell widescreen monitor and the 28" Viewsonic monitor (Newegg). Both are 1920x1200 (16x10) and are hdcp capable. One is DVI and the other is HDMI. I think both of these would make a better display for a PC client than a TV since you don't need all the other inputs, tuners, etc. and I think PC desktops are a bit more usable @ 16x10. The only problem is they don't come in the large sizes that TV's do.

For less money you can get the Viewsonic 28" @ Newegg. Same resolution, bigger display.

It just has an MVP connected to it now, and as some of you, I'm waiting on the HD extender to come out.

Sure, it won't be 1080p, but it's sure better than having a 480p display...or a 720p display...
