Please report DVB-S feedback

I've been told that DVB-S should be working for FTA (free to air) channels in the v6.2.4 beta, but that there may be some problems using CAM/CI.

If you are using DVB-S, please be sure to send your feedback to SageTV via the Bug Submission Form, especially if you are experiencing any problems.

Forgive me if I missed it, because I did look... Are there any updated DVB-S guides or howto's in the manual or elsewhere?

I've got a skystar 2 pci card with the latest (beta) BDA drivers from the technisat site. (I have 2 LNBS and a simple 2 port diseq switch)

I've been able to get the current setup running with mytheatre, but not so much with the channel scan in the latest SageTV beta, which I think is just a config issue.

A point in the right direction to documentation specific to DVB-s setup would be appreciated

tnx

There's nothing in the manual at this time. I'll have to see if any can be found.

The skystar 2 card is for FTA channels only.
Note that at the moment SageTV does not support DISEQC so the first thing to do would be to remove the switch and use just one LNB and see if you can scan some channels.

Maybe with the Diseqc in place, the wrong LNB is selected from your last use in mytheater and you are trying to scan the frequencies from the other lnb (which is not active).

Also, can you let us know the processor and RAM in your PC;

BTW, the DVB-S setup is fairly straight forward.

Once you are in "Setup Video Sources" and try to "Add New Source", you should see you technisat card.

Selecting Digital Tuner would make SageTV to open a channel on the card. If it is the first time and there no congigured channels you will see nothing so you press Enter/Select again. Now you will have a list of satellites to choose from. Choose one that your dish points to and the scan will start.

Thumbs up

Ok, I thought I read there was diseq support in one of the changelogs, perhaps I imagined it...

I'll either try the MyTheater trick mentioned or a test direct hook up, and yes I understand this is true FTA only. I had done a fresh reboot prior to trying to do a channel scan.

I had previously performed the steps mentioned by lucas below but it wasn't finding any channels from the transponder, so I was thinking there was a setting somewhere that was off or could be tweaked in a text file... like LOF1 or LOF2 or SW or other settings *shrug*

I'll report back later

Diseqc support is supposed to be provided at a later release...

Working pretty well for me.

I can watch FTA and encrypted channels using my Sky uk sub card. I am using a firedtv dvb-s receiver and a dragon/t-rex cam.

The problems that I have are:

1. Occasionally just stops tuning dvbs. A restart of the sage service solves this. I have my pvr set to reboot every 3 days so it must happen rarely within 3 days.

2. Cannot tune paramount comedy +1. Qian reckons this is due to the cam. I intend to install another dvb app so I can test but I haven't got round to it

I can tune FTA and encrypted channels perfectly in DVBViewer (including Paramount +1) but have limited success with Sage so far. Sometimes scan finds everything, other times its just 8 channels. Sometimes everything tunes, other times nothing.

Grabbing logs and sending them to Qian whenever I get a chance.

I should point out that I could not tune the FTA without the Sky card/cam in the firedtv. Should the FTA channels tune without the Sky card/cam? I was expecting them to

Yes, you can.

Just edit the PredefinedDVBS.frq file and add the new sat along with frequencies you want to scan....

Technotrend S2-3200 & MCE

I installed Sage 6.2.4 from a clean MCE build. The scanning of the channels seemed fine - in fact literally hundreds of channels, comparing against Lyngsat a couple of these (BBC1 and 2) looked good. extract below.

CH:1 onid:2 sid:6301 tsid:2045 frq:10773000 rate:22000 pol:1 fec_rate_in:6 ctrl:1 #:BBC-1-London
CH:2 onid:2 sid:6302 tsid:2045 frq:10773000 rate:22000 pol:1 fec_rate_in:6 ctrl:1 #:BBC-2-England

However, whilst tunning - initially in the preview window it showed pictures that aligned with channels. But later stripes, nothing or blocks/stripes mainly green.

Once finished, any channels tended to come up with each no real picture (mainly green stripes) or no picture/no signal sign. Not sure whats going on here - normally in other viewers have no issues.

As well as the Technotrend card am using CI and Dragon. Any thoughts/advice on this one gratefully recieved as am very keen to get Sage working with DVB-S

This is most probably due to a known bug... somewhere. Qian has not managed to isolate the root cause yet. It seems that after many channel changes which require sagetv to send requests to the driver, the data stream gets corrupted thus the lines and other artifacts you see.

Note that in the background, every few minutes, sagetv scans all channels of epg info which makes the issue appear much sooner.
I can also force it to happen by trying to tune a DVB-S2 channel like the HD Retail Info. Any channels after that are screwed. There is a known issue with DVB-S2 parsing so this is probably related because if epg scanning is enabled, SageTV also scans the DVB-S2 channels.

In my case, I turned off epg scanning and the problem appears very rarely.

Set disable_data_scanning=true for your DVB-S card.

You should also file a bug report for this behaviour.

Problem with encrypted channels

Hi,
I am using FireDTV DVB-S with the 64 bit BDA drivers. For me all FTA channels works perfectly. However the encrypted channels does not work. If i first use select an encrypted channel from MyTheatre (which is ok) and then select the same channel from SageTV the channel is ok.
Any suggestion? Does SageTV handle encrypted channels?
/Thomas

Just Curious,

Does sage support DiSEqC 1.2 yet ? (for rotor control) because that what I use on my 36in antenna.

SageTV handles encrypted channels.

Have you tried tuning a fta channel just before tuning an encrypted channel?

There are some users with the FireDTV box and they report that it's mostly OK.

Could it be that it's 64bit driver related.....?

Could be... But why does it work on all channels with MyTheatre?

Do I need any helperapplication for the communication to the CI interface? At the moment i do not have any service or application running for this. I do not remember if I had any application for this when using 32bit drivers...

I was just flicking through the channels in 6.2.5 checking all tuned ok and noticed that sky sports 1 is showing a football match. The game is being shown in a smaller window with other info displayed on graphics around it.

Anybody seen this before? I saw it in 6.2.4 as well.
