vista problems

I'm having trouble getting Sage to work properly with Vista.
(1) Aspect Ratio -- I prefer to set this to Source. However, widescreen HD content is squeezed into SD size. Not sure why. If I use fill or set the aspect ratio to 16:9, then HD content okay but SD content is stretched and out of proportion. Why doesn't Source setting work in Vista? Never had problem on XP machine.
(2) Video choppy. If I use media center, video quality is fine, but I don't like media center. Hard to customize (if at all) and cannot get guide data for all my channels. So I prefer Sage, but in Vista, the video quality sucks. Again, not a problem in XP.

I have other Vista issues, as well, that are not Sage related, but maybe someone has a tip. The biggest is repeated error messages with Nvidia driver: it stops functioning (I get a black screen for a few seconds) and then it recovers. This is apparently a problem for lots of people with no clear fix, but who knows? Maybe someone here knows something. I'm using a 7300GT card and latest 163 driver. Planning to upgrade to 8500GT card.

What decoder are you using? I'm running 6.2 on Vista with the Cyberlink PowereDVD 7 decoder. It runs great and looks great on my widescreen 16:10 monitor. Oh, and keep that in mind. Unless you have one of the large 1920x1080 monitors which are 16:9 your monitor is actually 16:10.

I have an X1950XT and have 3D mode turned on and FSE turned off. It runs great!

I was actually thinking to myself last night how fluid the HD video was looking on my Vista machine whereas in XP I had some stutter last year on XP. I am running a 6600 at 1080i hdmi output.

I would look at the decoders too as well as the performance optimizations to be done for networked media playback if this is a client and not your server.
