Screens look different on MVP vs server? Why?
I am attaching a screenshot of what the Online Services looks like when I view it directly on the SageTV server console.
When I booted up one of my MVP's tonight, I didnt see the new options I added like the Netflix, rss new feeds etc. Im just wondering why they dont show up. I suppose there is a good reason :-) I just dont know what it is. |

You are running a custom STV on the server. You have to load & run the same STV on the MVP.

I was under the impression I was just using the default stv. Im sure there is an easy way to check that right? And when you say to load an run the same STV on the MVP...how would I do that? I thought the MVP just gets its gui generated based on whatever is loaded on the sagetv server. Which is why I was surprised to see that they looked different. Im missing something here :-) Thanks for any more insight on this. Thank you. |

You may have started with the default STV, but since you have added various imports (ie Netflix, RSS, etc) it is now considered a custom STV.
When you add an import to any STV, it creates a new STV file that includes the import. For instance, say you were using an STV called 'sage.xml' and then imported the RSS feeder. This will in turn create a new STV file called 'sage-1.xml' (or something along those lines). If you then import another package, a new STV named 'sage-2.xml' will be created, and so on. You can determine which STV you are currently using by entering the setup menu. I believe the current STV name is listed in the system info box in the lower right corner of the screen. To change the STV you are using on the MVP, you would go to Setup->Detailed Setup->Advanced. There is an option in there to select which STV you would like to use. Alternately, you could just go back and re-import all of packages that you want. You are correct that the MVP GUI is generated by the server, but incorrect in assuming that it is the exact same GUI that is shown on the server. When an MVP first connects to the server, the server creates a new properties file (among other things) specifically for the MVP, with the default settings. So when you first connect an MVP to the server, you are truly getting a default configuration. Any configuration changes made on the MVP will not affect the server configuration, and vice versa. That being said, if you want your MVP GUI to look identical to you server, first determine which STV your server is using. You can then enter the Detailed Setup on the MVP and select the same STV, which will include all of your imports, although any customized settings or configurations for those imports will most likely have to be re-entered... Forgive me if I messed up a few details in my explanation, but there are plenty of other people on here who can provide a bit more detail if you would like. -Dan Last edited by CyRex; 11-15-2007 at 10:52 AM. |

Im wondering if there is some config file I just need to delete on the sagetv server, then let the MVP connect again. And at that point it will get the same STV that is running on the sage tv server Right now, my SageTV server is using like SageTV3-5.xml. And it has all the imports in it when I view it directly on the sagetv server console. Last edited by steingra; 11-15-2007 at 03:57 PM. |

What STV are you currently using? That should be reported on the System Infomation screen -- Setup -> Help -> Sys Info, or just use the Info command while on the Main Menu. - Andy

OK, well I sat here and thought about what CyRex said, and I realized what I needed to do was to look on the setup options on the MVP. And sure enough there was a setting in there. HEH!!! I never knew you could do that.
So I just choose my SageTV3-5.xml (it showed all of the stvs) and wa-la I now am showing all my addins on the MVP. Sweet!!! Thanks for your help once again!!!!! Now onto next issue... Last edited by steingra; 11-15-2007 at 04:15 PM. |
