Sky and Viewing cards.

Basically, what's the crack? I've been asked to look into streaming sky around a house, and I was wondering how you go about watching the channels that require a viewing card? Are there card readers? Can sage use them? If so, how does sage go about using multiple DVB-S cards?

I'm basically after any and all info I can get.

Cheers in advance

What you are trying to achieve is possible in SageTV. I currently stream Sky on any client(PCs and MVP) in the house. Obviously with one sub you can only get to watch one show at a time. In reality you don't stream in real time, just set up the favourite series or shows to be recorded and watch them afterwards.

To do it you need a DVB-S device(Technotrend, firedvb etc) which supports a CI/CAM interface and a T-Rex CAM module.

All you need to do is to load a version(most do) of the t-rex software on the CAM(via a programmer) that supports the Sky UK card, load the CAM in the CI module of the DVB-S device and scan Astra 2 from SageTV.

For XMLTV EPG info look for the various threads on how to accomplish it.

Excellent. That's the news I was after. As for the EPG, I've read every guide I can find on this forum, but they all seem to be over 3 years old, and I've hit a problem with every one so far. Either the grabbers won't grab anything, or the grabber software is now a newer version so the guide is completely useless. It seems to be a very common problem, so if anyone has the time to write a new updated version, I'm sure it would be invaluable to plenty of new users like myself?

hi guys

Im in LA for the next week, but i can confirm that before i left a week ago, i did succeed to get the EPG working on SAGE for Sky. I have not tested in depth but ill update the guide once i get back with the remaining steps.

I have not being able to determine where the list of channels that are 'Enabled' for the guide are stored, eg. I enable BBC NI, but disable all the other BBC regions.

I also took a peek at trying to use the new MDAPI but was not able to get the ax module to register into XP correctly, so that needs more attention.
