Options for Sage MPEG2 decoder in 6.3.2?

I noticed this in the release notes:

6. Added registry settings to control SageTV MPEG-2 Video Decoder filter settings

Is there any information on what these settings are and the possible settings? Thanks!

I'm not sure about any others, but one setting controls whether it uses DXVA -- controlled by an option in Detailed Setup -> Video / Audio, when the MPEG2 decoder is set to use the SageTV MPEG Video Decoder.

I was under the impression that could no longer be modified using the Sage setup UI, based on the following statement in the release notes:

Quote:
STV Updates
...
Removed DXVA MPEG Mode & Deinterlacing options from the UI.
Is that STV update referring to something else?

Yes can someone please clarify this. Are these options moot now that it supports dxva? And what did all those different options do anyways? I tried many combinations of all of them and really did not see much difference.

The new option controls whether DXVA is enabled when the MPEG2 decoder is set to use the SageTV MPEG Video Decoder.

The removed options were the old ones for DXVA MPEG Mode anbd DXVA Deinterlacing... since no one knew what they were for & they didn't seem to make much difference. They just seemed to add confusion for users.

Okay thats a little more clear. What does the DXVA option actually accomplish?

I believe DXVA == "DirectX Video Acceleration"; it enables hardware acceleration. I think it mentions that on the screen somewhere for that option.

OKay, yeah knew what it means literally...but what the heck does it actually do? Just use the GPU to help decode and display? I've not noticed any difference with it on or off.

Pretty much. Your CPU usage should be quite a bit lower with it on. I think there's a good chance you wouldn't notice any other difference if you're watching standard definition TV as opposed to high definition.

And I would agree, except that my system will not display video from any channels from one transponder of my DVB-S source unless I have MPEG Mode set to something other than Auto.

There is also a properties setting to re-enable the display of the DXVA MPEG Mode and Interlacing options

Oh yeah... I almost forgot about that. I figured it was better to property them away rather then delete them completely.
