Most important questions:

what signal does the component out support? 1080i? 720p?

Can it support upscaling video on the component out @1080i?

For sure 1080i, rumors suggest 1080p over component, though only one of my TVs can take 1080p component, it is getting more accepted

Actually let me re-phrase:

assuming the source material is 480i (aka DVD quality via s-video capture):
  1. Can I independently set the HD output to 1080i
  2. If yes what process does the source material go through (i.e. re-sample / iDCD etc) -- is this done in hardware or software?
  3. Can I create my own filter path?

Oh, that's a great question! I have some Nero files that encode in that format. I can do stereo, but 5.1 support would be great if it can do it. (Not a deal-breaker, but it would be very useful.)

My questions are releated to hebrew:
1. will it support UTF-8 hebrew in the UI, so that the menues ang guides could be displayed in hebrew.
2. Would it support subtiltles, for XVID,DIVX and MKV

jlindborg - I assume from your listed specs you are watching HD recording through your MVPs? Have you had numerous tweeks and fixes to make that work? I've been working with support for months to find a resolution but no luck so far.

Thanks!

No, I only watch the HD recordings (via the HDHR) on my main system in the living room which is hooked to a full client. The MVPs are used for SD watching. I've had no luck with HD content on those. I only record a handfull of shows in HD at this point so it's not that big a deal for me and with the HD extender on the way it'll be moot in a hurry...

I would also care to know this as I have a bunch of these types of videos and I hate being limited to watching them on full PC's...

I would also like to know how the aspect ratio is handled?
Right now the MVP does what it wants...Does the HD Extender allow us to change the AR manually?

Concerning Aspect Ratio -

1) There's a button labeled "Aspect" on the remote. Good Sign.
2) One of the betas for 6.2.x said "Added proper pixel aspect ratio calculation for variable resolution media extenders" Another good sign.

I suspect that the full suite of 4 aspects will be available on the STX-HD100.

btl.

So will one of these MPEG-4.2 ASP@L5 or H.264 up to 1080p allow this to nativly handle the R5000-HD stream from a Dish network box so the server won't have to transcode?

If you haven't been here, some good info on the extender :

http://www.shspvr.com/reviews/sagetv...der_index.html

SHS reviews the HD100 and has some screen shots up....

In both reviews I seen, the screenshots show a way to chose which a/v output you want. However, it doesn't show if you can select more than one (i.e. simultaneous output of 1080i over component and 480i over S-Video).

n/m: I saw this later:

Quote:
Best of all you can used Component, S/Video and Composite output
at the same time

The Review

Check out all of these formats ... this is Great(ASF, MKV & Quicktime )
(anticipating all these formats are hardware decoded ... including the Divx & Xvid which was not listed, but mentioned)
Quote:
STX-HD100 File Format & Codec Support
The HD Extender supports the following file formats:
AVI, ASF, MPEG, MKV, QuickTime, MP4, Ogg, WMV, VOB (including with AC3 audio)
Video Codecs Support: MPEG-1,MPEG-2 MP@HL, MPEG-4.2 ASP@L5, H.264 up to 1080p, WMV9/VC-1 up to 1080p
Audio Codecs: MPEG Audio, AAC, Vorbis (stereo only), AC3 (decode/pass-through), WMA, FLAC, DTS (pass-through)
This was taken from Brent's review dated for 12/10
http://brentevans.blogspot.com/

Great Review ... some of the verbiage sounds similar to what i've seen posted around here in the forum somewhere

Look like it has everything although no mention of Internet Radio - I know koelec has a customized STVI - Simple Web Radio ... that allows SAGE to play Internet Radio, but because of the MVP limitations this would not work on the current extender ... Could we back in business with this new device

Send a message via ICQ to valnar
Even though the two online reviews say so, I'd like to hear from forum members who get the STX-HD100....

Question:
How does it do on Blu-ray or HDTV rips in either .TS or .MKV format? Does it work okay on files that make even modern ATI 2600Pro cards throw up? From a Sage perspective (not DVD watching like TheaterTek or PowerDVD), is there any "SageTV" reason to keep a real HTPC client around?

Thanks,
Robert

Yes, the Aspect Ration button at the bottom of the remote allows you to switch between the 4 aspect ratios easily.

It will play 1080p VC-1 + DD audio in MKV. It will also play 1080p AVC+DD in TS files.

Caveat being Jeff is looking into some streaming bandwith issues at the moment.

I still play DVDs (not rips) in SageTV on my HTPC.
