Problem playing back trailers using MovieTimes Interface and SageMC

For several months now, I haven't been able to play back trailers using MovieTimes. This at one time worked, but now does not.

I'm using the internal Sage player, and when I try and play a trailer, I get the following error message.

There was a Playback Error in playback. sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-4,0x80040265): There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback.

I'm using the Nvidia Purevideo Decoders, which is what I've always used.

The trailer files are there, and I'm able to play those on another computer. They are .mov files.

Any ideas?

I think .mov files are quicktime format. You might need to have quicktime or quicktime alternative installed to use its decoder.

Hmm...that's interesting. I wonder if I ever had quicktime on there before, or possibly, maybe the file format changed? Thanks Mike, I will give that a go tonight, and see if that is the issue.

I think you need a decoder registered for H.264 playback - I think these files are encoded in HD 1080i/p with H.264. I believe my playback works with the Cyberlink decoder installed.

You can choose the preferred resolution of the trailers to download. I just download the SD trailers. Jason didn't specify what resolution he is trying to play. So if they are HD, maybe trying out a few SD trailers might be a good test.

Mike

Yep, HD, 1080 to be exact. I'll have to set it up with SD trailers after I install Quicktime, if that doesn't playback the HD trailers.

Just double checking. You're sure in detailed setup you set the MP4 playback to use the Sageplayer? I'm downloading the HD trailers and on 3 of my clients and the 2 MVP they play fine. Neither the server nor the clients have quicktime installed. No other decoders but nVidia and what comes with Sage.

Hmm...that setting says DirectShow. I haven't changed this setting at all, unless of course, it's a new setting, and it is just set to the default...

Okay, well, I changed to the SageTV Player from DirectShow, and I don't get the error message anymore, but now all I see is a black screen, with some really, and I mean, really, loud, high pitched bips...

Restart everything and make sure it's not set to overlay.

Rebooted, and it's set to VMR9. Still no dice.

Most of the time when I have playback problems like these and dont have a lot of time to trouble shoot I just backup the clients properties file and then delete it and start with a fresh one. It usually takes care of 98% of my problems. Of course if you have a lot of customized settings in there it might take you longer to get it set back up. But you can try it and if it doesnt work just shut down sage and put the old properties file back in.

Try setting your "always use dshow=true" in your Sage client properties. Also try setting your default audio renderer to "Default Direct Sound device". I use both coreavc and Cyberlink's H.264 decoders; it seems for me that CoreAVC doesn't work with the Apple H.264 movies. But Cyberlink does. I set both to the exact same elevated merit and now everything's working just fine.

Copy that, both settings are as described. I'm not sure that I even have an H.264 decoder installed, but has the format of these videos changed since about 6 months ago?
