Upgrade from 5x to 6x question

Simple question I hope . . .

Is there a "preferred" way to upgrade from 5 to 6 so I won't lose my icon customizations, old recordings and media library recordings, etc?

Also, do I need to access the original license info somehow, and if so, what are those files called (I have had hard drive failures and have moved a lot of files around since I installed SageTV and Placeshifter version 5x.)

Just install over top of your existing setup to preserve your recorded shows and watched history.

UI graphics will get overwritten during the install, so if you've modified those files, you'll want to back them up first. (In fact the smart thing is to back up the entire directory where Sage is installed.) V6.2 has a new theme system that allows you to change UI graphics without overwriting the originals, so your changes will be preserved in future upgrades. But for this upgrade, you'll need to save your modified graphics first, then make them into a theme after upgrading.

License keys are not stored anywhere in cleartext. If you've lost the original email from Sage containing that info, you'll have to contact Support to get it.

Also be aware (if you're not already) that if you bought your original license for V4 or earlier, you'll need to buy an upgrade license to use V6. If you originally bought V5, you don't need an upgrade license.
