WHS - what to buy?

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this is a dumb question - but I am really rather confused about what licences I need to buy to do the following:

1) Have a copy of SageTV Media Server (V6.3 for Windows Home Server) running on my WHS box.
2) Have a client on one other PC.
3) Have a placeshifter client on my laptop.

Many Thanks!
T

a Sage Media Server license, a client license, and a placeshifter license.

However, unless you need local DVD playback and fine-tuning of your codecs, you may not need the client license, and just share the placeshifter license.

Stu

OK - so it turns out quite a bit more expensive (i.e. the cost of a client) to run the WHS version rather than just running Sage Media Server on my client PC..? Seems slightly wacky to me or am I missing something here? (I can't share Placeshifter licences as my wife will be home when I am on the road.)

Cheers

AFAIK the WHS version already includes one free placeshifter license.

Ahh - that sounds a bit better then. I suggest this is made more clear on the shopping section of the website.

Many Thanks!

I have Sage v6.3 running on an XP platform and want to move the tuner card over to my new WHS box. I keep seeing references to Sage for WHS but can't find it in the Store area.

Where do you get it? Or, do I already have it and just need to install on the WHS?

Thanks

The WHS installer is on the downloads page. It uses a regular Windows SageTV license -- the full server version, not a client license.

Does that mean if I switch from XP to WHS I will get a free placeshifter license? I was planning on switching to Server2k3 but if I can get a free PS license if I switch to WHS I will do that instead.

I'm not sure how I missed the download page in the store. I received my license by email and followed the link which initiated a download of the software.

My goal is to run the server on WHS and abandon the other box, so hopefully I can use the same server license without purchasing one for the WHS version. I'll find out shortly if this works.

Thanks for the link

Jeff

Forgot to follow up on this...

Downloaded Sage WHS version from download page and installed. I used the server licence purchased for SageTV (non WHS) server and it worked fine. It tells me that I have a Placeshifter license, but I don't think I do - or am entitled to one.

My basic question (can I use my non-WHS server license on the WHS version of Sage) was answered: YES! I was able to migrate the Sage operation from the XP box to the WHS box at no extra cost and have one less computer running 24/7.

Jeff
