Quiet HDTV Voice?

now when I watch HDTV shows the voice is soo quiet and the background noise is almost louder than the voice. SD shows are the same and normal. anything I can check for the HD shows? I am using the SageTV audio decoder and just running the sound thru my TV nothing special. how do I boost the HD show voice?

Are you sure you're not trying to play 5.1-channel sound through stereo speakers? Voices are on the center channel and will tend to disappear if you don't downmix the sound to stereo.

How do you do that? Does it have to convert the whole show? Is it a setting?

Use AC3Filter (which comes with Sage) for audio decoding and set the output format for two speakers.

I've had to crank up the gain on my center channel, via ac3filter to hear the voice also.

Been that way for ever for me.

Part of the problem being that the show is produced to be played at a higher volume level than my wife likes, so I was always straining to hear the dialog. Increasing the gain of the center channel fixes this.

Also try turning off surround sound.
