Unhappy Hauppaugue MediaMVP Wireless 86017

Wondering if this unit is compatible with the current version of SageTV, it's not working for me. This unit is labeled as Model 86017 Rev H3 Lot 0208 and is a wireless device with Samsung B/G CF card in it. Back connectors are standard composite audio/video, s-video, SPDIF and LAN jack.

I managed to get it to connect to the wireless network, and got the loading application screen over wireless then a black screen with nothing on it.

I should also mention I'm running the latest release candidate 6.3.10

All the literature says they are compatible, but the only way I got mine to work was through a wireless bridge. The wMVP is absolutely useless (in my opinion) as a wireless device.

Did you wait at least 2 minutes?
Can you get a wireshark capture of the startup?

never ever use the MVP's native wireless. Buy a bridge or a wrt54 and mod it w/the custom firmware Tomato or dd-wrt.

Pretty sure I did. Nothing showed up in the SageTV clients directory and just a black screen on the MediaMVP wireless device. I can probably get a wireshark capture if needed.

It should not be very hard to find the problem with a wireshark capture. I have never had a serious issue with my wireless MVP. I think most of the people that do, have routers in their network that seem to cause problems. My DSL router is on a different network.

But are you running the 86017 model?

I've had my wMVP for about a month now. I gave up on getting it to work using the builtin wireless and was waiting to get my bedroom wired back to the wiring closet. Finally I was bored enough last night to give it another shot in my living room where my wireless access point is...here's what i got...

1. Downloaded the latest Hauppauge software onto my XP machine (don't think this was necessary but i was set to try every combo...i eventually disabled the software).
2. Let the MVP sit with no power for about 3 minutes
3. Connected the MVP to the access point (or in my case a router used as an access point) using cat5
4. Plugged the power cable into the MVP and let sit for a few minutes
5. It finally recycled and came up to the sage screen
6. I then pulled the power and the ethernet cable and let sit for a few minutes
7. Connected the power, but no ethernet, let sit for a few minutes and nothing; sometimes the loading application screen then a reset, sometimes the blackscreen...note; the wMVP and the access point are inches from each other
8. Connected the ethernet cable and reset the wMVP and Sage came up no prob.
9. Come to the conclusion that the w in wMVP is a piece of crap
10. Sit for a bit, read a few of these posts that mention using a bridge, then remember the 802.11g game adapter i had bought years ago for my PS2 that was rotting away in the closet.
11. Bring that bad boy out and configure it for my wireless network, connect the ethernet cable from that to the wMVP, recycle the wMVP and success!
12. Took the two devices back to my bedroom and was finally able to watch TV and recordings in bed....

What a PITA!

Guys,

Save your sanity and cable the wMVP. I spent 3 months trying to get it working with various wireless bridges and routers, In the end I bought two homeplugs and connected the wMVP to the server through the mains electricty and it works a treat.

I have just had one of my wMVP's die and I have replaced it with the non wireless MVP. I would never buy the wMVP again they are a complete waste of money.

Yep. I think this is why Sage quit selling them long before they quit selling the wired only ones (even tho the wireless came out after the wired version). I can only imagine the support headaches these must have caused.
