On-Line Videos stop after 8-12 seconds

I've searched the forums, but I don't see anyone having this problem. I'm new to SageTV, so forgive me if the answer is really simple.

Here is my problem. I recently got the HD extender and SageTV with the second batch. I also bought a HDHomeRun, because I had trouble with my older CatsEye USB tuners. I've gotten everything connected and it seems to work well together. However, when I try to watch any on-line material, it buffers and loads the video, starts playing the video just fine, but then stops after 8-12 seconds everytime. It doesn't matter the source of the video (Youtube or other on-line channel available through the extender menus). I can reload the video or restart the video, but the same thing happens.

It seems to load more of the video than actually plays. Watching the progress bar, the play position doesn't reach the amount loaded bar before it stops playing, so I think there is a bigger issue going on here.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

Brian

What STV are you using? Unless you are running into something different, this sounds like an old download issue that was fixed in the default STV.

I'm having the same problem. On line videos stop after a few seconds). The problem occurs whether on the media extender or at the PC.

I have the latest SageTV software (non-Beta), and the latest firmware for the Sage HD media extender. XP home SP2 is the OS.

Any fixes yet?

Same question as above: what STV are you using?

If by STV you mean SageTV, I'm using version 6.3.10.166-Client as told to me by the help section of the program.

No what he is asking are you using the default Sage menus? Or are you using a customized menu system?

Third line down from there tells you exactly what STV you're running. (If you're running the default or SageMC, etc.) You should see "CUrrent STV File: SageTV3.xml (Version 6.3.10.2 February 26,2008)

Mine is SageTV3-7.xml because I also have imports in mine. You should always go back to the default STV when yo have issues to troubleshoot. See if yo have it there and then work you're way to what you're running today.

It seems that I might be using an older STV version - SageTV3.xml (Version 6.3.5.0 December 10, 2007)

Is this is issue? I'll check to see if I can get a newer version (again I am brand new to Sage, so I don't really know where to get all this).

Thanks for the help so far.

Brian

EDIT - OK, I've downloaded what I think is the latest STV version from the forum. Now it shows Version 6.3.10.2 February 26,2008.

I won't have the chance to to test it for a few more minutes.

I'm not sure to what download you are referring to, so: in case you mean you downloaded just the STV file in the forum's download section, that STV file won't work using v6.3.5 of SageTV; you need to go to the SageTV Download page to download the SageTV v6.3.10 update & then run that installer.

I went to the download section of the forum and downloaded the top STV version (dated 12-20-07). I'm not sure why it appears in the SageTV Help area with the version/date I posted above. But it seems to have solved the problem. I know can watch the online content without it stopping after the 8-12 seconds.

Thanks for all the help.

OK, we should double check this because you may have done exactly what I said not to do...

Go to System Information and see what it says for "Software Version" and "Current STV File".

If all you did was download the v6.3.10.2 STV and are now using that with SageTV v6.3.5, then you will run into more problems and you need to go to the product download page I posted above (or found in my sig lines) and download/install SageTV v6.3.10. This is not a beta version and there is not a beta version newer than that.

If both SageTV and the STV are reported as v6.3.10, then you are OK.

Thanks for the clarification. I've updated to 6.3.10 now

Software version: SageTV V6.3.10.166
Current STV File: SageTV3.xlm (Version 6.3.10.2 February 26, 2008)

Thanks for all your help. It stinks being a newbee!

I have Software version: SageTV V6.3.10.166
Current STV File: SageTV3.xlm (Version 6.3.10.2 February 26, 2008)
and I updated Java to the latest.

Still all online content stops after a few seconds, always at the same point in time. Regardless of on the PC or via the HD1000 Extender.

Any clues?

If you don't have any customizations installed, then no, I don't know what is causing that. I suggest that you contact SageTV tech support.

On line content only runs for several seconds.

I too have that same problem. Any on-line video will only run for 5 to 10 seconds then quits back to the last menu.

I have never had one run its entire length.

I have never complained about it because the on-line content is rather lacking in selection and quality so I never use the stuff. I go on line only for weather and that works just fine.

So the guy who reported this problem is not the only one. (at leaset there is 2)

Just wanted to chime in here. I too am running 6.3.10.166 and 6.3.10.2 Default Stv and get anywhere from 5 to 8 seconds of youtube videos before the exit back out to the menu. Also, the sound does not match the video either. The video is delayed by a few seconds. This is not on a media extender, but I thought it most appropriate to post here. This is on my Sage server.

I am having the same issue on my server--youtube videos report the infamous "playback error in playback" message, while google videos try to play for about a second and then go back to the online video menus. This happens in the standard STV and in SageMC STV.

Have any of you contacted SageTV tech support, as I suggested above?

Has anyone tried something like this?

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31823

I haven't had a chance yet...but perhaps using DirectShow filters with ffdshow and Gabest FLV Splitter might work...although I'm still pretty confused as to how Sage and DirectShow work/don't work together. ;-)
