DTS audio

Hi there. I recently downloaded a video file that is encoded with DTS audio and is not playing on my media extender. AC3 and most other audio types seem to work fine. But it is not playing DTS. What can I do about this?

Correct, the HD100 only supports DTS pass-through. It does not decode DTS for playback through the analog out. You need a receiver or other device hooked to HDMI or S/PDIF that can decode DTS to play it back.

I also filed a support request about DTS audio not being transcoded to 2 channel stereo like AC3 and George responded that it is being worked on.

Hi,

Are Sage still working on adding DTS decoding support?

I have a lot of my files as DTS and play via my TV so I have no sound, so if there are no plans for this I will look at converting them to AC3.

Cheers.

Well I was just about to start a new thread so I figured I'd just hijack this one since it is on topic....

I have a receiver, Onkyo 705, that can decode the DTS audio. I have the STX-HD100 connected to it via HDMI. All other audio plays fine, but on the one .mkv I've tried the DTS is not working - I get perfect video but no sound.

Any suggestions? See attached for MediaIno. TIA!!!

EDIT: OK, I just tried a .wav DTS file and that isn't working either. I checked the Onkyo 705 display info and I'm seeing "no signal." The video is working fine but for some reason there's no audio signal.

Any help? Again, TIA!

Any news from Sage or should I log a support call for this?

BTW, it would be useful to add to the HD100 FAQ a section on Audio output and formats supported - for example, its taken me some searching to find that if you select HDMI for audio then Sage will downmix AC3 to stereo and pass that via HDMI, if you select SPDIF for stereo then it will send compressed (SPDIF/AC3) via HDMI.

Why would that be useful? Any HDTV capable of receiving a OTA HD should be able to downmix 5.1 AC3 to stereo since many TV stations broadcast in surround.

I'm talking about down mixing DTS. And not many HDTVs I know of in the UK will downmix HDMI AC3 either.

OK, just heard back that there will be no support for the HD100 downmixing DTS to stereo as the hardware does not support it.

Pity they won't do it via transcoding though, as the manual states

"In addition to the native support for the formats listed above, SageTV will attempt to transcode
other media formats to a type that the extender can play. Transcoding may not be available for all
possible media formats."

So either need to use external decoder or convert to AC3 - anyone know of any easy one-step programs to do this?
