6.3.10 & HDHR: Live Stutter
Has anyone else experienced audio and video stutter while trying to watch a HDHR recording that is in progress? I usually wait 30 minutes and then watch...I'm getting pretty repeatable stutter on CBS and ABC, so far. If I let the program finnish, all is well. Latest SW/FW on the HDHR. It happened in 6.3.5 as well, but I forgot about it until the wife's shows came back on (Big Brother & Bachelor). PVR500 live is no problem. Hardware is more than enough. Local SATA II drives and the HDHR is direct connect.

I watched CSI: Miami last night by starting it about 20 minutes into the show and had no issues watching it over a MediaMVP (transcoded to High).

I had the same problem on ABC (outside of Philadelphia) for just some shows in real-time like the local 11:00PM news in HD (HD-HOMERUN). I was also running the NVIDIA Purevideo decoder, but when I switched to InterVideo's decoder the problem went away. BTW: I'm using Full Screen Exclusive mode / non-overlay. I've also tested with a few other decoders but the InterVideo (came with WinDVD 7) one works perfectly.
Seems odd though, I was using a new PCIe NVIDIA 8500GT and their latest NVIDIA Purevideo decoder. john |

Do you do live commercial processing? I've had this same behavior when commercials are being processed on the same drive as the live recording. Once commercial processing is done, then all is well.

No, but there are the times the CPU spikes to 100% (other thread)...I'll check the CPU monitor next time it happens (by going to the Main Menu). I've also switched to the Cyberlink video decoder. Fingers crossed.

Update: Changed to Cyberlink and that's not the problem. Stutter occurs when the CPU spikes to 100%. It's the SageTV service that is using 100%. The spike lasts for about 10 seconds and then subsides...but the in progress recording can't seem to recover. I guess I'll try debug logging to see what's causing the service to max the CPU. I've once again disabled "Always Scan Import Directories" to see if that's what's causing the spike.

My installation is doing the same thing. I first experienced the problem in 6.3.8 (it was working fine for months). Then I downgraded to 6.3.5 and still had the issue. Then I upgraded to 6.3.10 and I still have it. It only happens when watching video from the HDHomerun (QAM HD locals from Comcast) on the HD Media Extender. The stutter does not happen when watching the same video from the server or WMP/VLC. DVDs seem to be fine as well.
Has anyone found an answer for why this is happening? |

Not yet. I have to enable logging and see what's up...haven't done that yet.
