Sorry, I missed earlier in the thread that the HD PVR records in H.264, I was presuming a mpeg2 file like the HVR 1600.
How well does your system transcode a 480p H.264 stream to the MVP (if you can set iit to that low resolution)? I would guess no problem. Which again would point to the efficiency of the code to resize the video stream. Are sage using the SIMD functions of the processor? Any comments from Sage?

Decoding HD H.264 is an order of magnitude more difficult than SD. Modern dual core processors can only just decode high-bitrate HD H.264 in real time. My Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2GHz) can't do it (both cores maxed out). The problem is the absolutely massive processing requirements for decoding H.264.
Resizing is trivial by comparison.
