HD100 R5000 VIP211 = No Live TV

On my SageTV server I can watch most channels I try (finally).

On my HD100, nothing via Live TV.

Under some situations I have been able to view imported library on the HD100 so I know some things are working.

Is something required as far as processing on the fly (i.e. muxing or lots of other things I undertand not).

TIA

If you are using the R5000 mod then it should be recording the digital stream directly and thus no on the fly processing. I think this is a good thread for Hawguy to get involved in. He has just this setup (if I am not mistaken).

I'm not sure that's completely true. I think there's some sort of muxing that goes on with QAM captures, which I thought were also suppose to be close to a direct stream capture. I remember I couldn't record off of certain stations after I updated to a newer version of the Sage server a while back. I had swap out the TSSplitter.ax file. It wasn't a playback issue- all the recordings from after updating the server to updating the TSSplitter file refused to play back even after moving to the new file.

Can anyone point me to some good reference videos that SHOULD play properly on the HD 100 if I put them in my imported video dir?

I think seeing video/audio actually PLAY on the HD 100 would encourage me to continue my journey.

Check your HD100 firmware. The extender is the least painful way to playback the r5000 streams. What version of SageTV, firmware, r5000 software are you using? Can the Extender playback your imported videos?

I'm pretty sure it's the latest firmware (not at home atm). At least when I try to update it, it thinks it's the latest.

SageTV - 6.4.4 Beta

R5000 - r5000ver30(SageTV).exe (full install ver. from the site 2 days ago)

I've not done extensive testing with putting files in my imported directory and trying to play them but I can't tune any channels with it as I mentioned and none of the (successfully) recorded MPG's that SageTV is making via the R5000 (that ARE viewable on the machine or via SageTV Client) are viewable on the HD 100.

In fact, now that I think about it, most of the files I've tried so far (not a lot) in the imported directory may have all or mostly come from the R5000 in some form or fashion.

Again, does anyone have links to files that they know 100% SHOULD be playable via the HD 100 (i.e. samples). That way I have a control at least.

Thanks, I _really_ want this to work.

P.S. I'll edit with the actual firmware on the HD 100 when I get home.

EDIT: BTW, not that this matters but I used the Program Guide via the HD 100 last night to tell it to record various shows and now they all show up in My Recordings and I'm able to view them fine from SageTV Client. In other words, I'm pretty sure that basic functionality is fine on the HD 100 (ok, a/v is probably considered "basic" for this device but you know what I mean).

I think I'm stumped. It looks like you have everything you need. I am not familiar with ver 3 of the r5000 software as I use ver 2.5f.

As I understand it, you can watch live r5000 streams on your server and on your client, right? You are unable to watch them on your HD100. It's a real long shot, but you might want to downgrade to version 2.5f of the r5000 software.

I am currently using my HD-PVR instead of the r5000, but will probably return to the r5000-hd soon as I feel the PQ and audio are better.

What?! I had no idea the R5000 wasn't as awesome as you can get... keep in mind that I've been using the R5000 standalone and viewing the content in that manner (i.e. the raw .ts files it creates).

What about channel switching with the HD-PVR, is it as seemless as with the R5000?

Anyway, I just got through looking at the firmware and it's version 20080204 0

Also, I hadn't thought to do this before but I just took a look at the "Online Services" area and I'm able to view all content I've tried there. In fact, which watching some of the stuff from the HD Video section, I'm encouraged enough to continue on.

I've opened an official "help me" ticket with Sage so we'll see.

I will do as you suggest and downgrade to 2.5 and I may have to think about getting me an HD-PVR if it's a better solution.

Thanks for your help.

The r5000-HD IS as awesome as you can get. That's why I will probably switch back to it after I've played around enough with the HD-PVR. I will use the HD-PVR in the future for a second tuner with another STB.

Your HD100 firmware is out of date, the latest version as of today is
20080604 0

You get this by pressing beta (2382) on the keypad at the firmware update page. Try it.

OMG!!!!

Works!!!!!

Oh yea, time for movies

EDIT: It was the beta firmware that made everything happy. Thanks.

I'm having trouble tuning channels (it sometimes takes 2 or 3 tries and occasionally requires - black magic i.e. I have no idea what I did that made it start working again) but at least it IS working. The picture quality and fluidness of the whole system is VERY impressive (when it isn't freakin' out about changing channels)...
