How do I test the IR receiver of the HD-PVR?

I have the hd-pvr set up and working great. The blaster is happily changing my cablebox channels but the HD-PVR doesn't seem to be receiving remote control commands.

With only the HD-PVR tuner installed, what's the best way to test the remote signal receiver?

Thanks.

I'm not even sure what the HD-PVR remote is for, anyone care to explain?

The HD PVR can act as an IR Receiver for Sage. It uses the same Remote Control App that the other Hauppauge cards do (PVR-250). So with the Remote Control App running (which you have to install) and configured, the remote can be aimed at the HD PVR to then send the siginal to Sage (or any other configured app) on that attached computer.

So once the Remote Control App is running, you can look at the irremote.ini (in C:\WINDOWS) file and see which applications are configured. Then start that app and try the remote control.

Hope this helps?

If you are just trying to figure out if the IR receiver + software is working, then try loading a blank "debug.txt" file in Notepad, make sure it has focus, then try using the remnote to see what shows up in Notepad.

If it is working, but not controlling SageTV, then check this FAQ and/or my sig lines.
