Is the DVB Viewer network encoder going to help me?

I have a few niggling problems that I can't seem to fix, and was wondering whether the DVB Viewer network encoder from Stephane might fix a few of them?

The faults I have found include.
-Frequent miss matched channels (It says FIVER for example, but it's actually ITV3)
-Lots of channels that I pay for show 'No Signal' even after updating my encryption card (Although this is possibly because of the first fault)
-Recordings will frequently have chunks missing
-Encrypted channels that normally work will randomly show no signal until I stop and restart sage service
-ITV HD is nowhere to be seen

If the network encoder will fix some of these, then I'll give it a try.

Cheers

John

I use it and it works well. I like it because it's easier to using DVBViewer for organising channels since they're always getting moved about. Also DVS-S2 channels work like C4 HD.

Still no ITV HD though at the moment

For this, I'm not even sure I understand the issue... Does this means that SageTV says it tune FIVER, but in the end it tunes ITV3 (FIVER / ITV3 being on the same frequency?)

Well your subscribtion card should have its rights updated either with the CAM of SoftCAM if the CAM support it, so it's the job of the CAM/CI, the DVB Software doesn't have to do anything.

When I was using SageTV with DVB-T support, I was occasionally having some quirks now and then (in rare occasion 5 min were missing). With DVBViewer it is way better now.

For this one DVBViewer will do a better job than SageTV (though it depends on the hardware you are using : Technotrend and Firedtv are very well supported in DVBViewer)

DVBViewer should help too

Basically, when in the channel setup, if I click 'View' to make sure that the channel quoted, is the channel displayed sometimes this is not the case.
Tae the channel 'Fiver' as an example. When I find it, and click 'View', the channel that plays is ITV 3.
Also, I'm currenty using your XMLTV importer, and have previously set up every channel required, and had it working perfectly. However I started noticing some previously working channels had stopped working, showing no signal instead. I tried a rescan to see if this would fix the issue, but it seems to have made matters worse. Now BBC HD works fine in the channel selection part of sage. I have 2 BBC HD's. the original, and the one without the physical address shown which is created by the xmltv importer. Both show channel number 301, and when in channel selection they both show BBC HD. However when in the EPG, the original one shows BBC HD, but has no EPG data, and the one with EPG Data, says it's BBC HD as it should, and has all of the EPG data for BBC HD, but when you watch it, it shows a different channel!

This has lead me to think that the second problem I have is related to this problem. Perhaps I'm not actually viewing the channel I should be able to decrypt. Therefore it would show up as no signal.

Rescanning is probably the source of your issue. When you do this, I think SageTV remaps everything and creates overrides in the sage.properties file.

With DVBViewer Recorder it will be easier to manage: you do a scan, then in the recorder pluging you assign a SageTV channel number to the channel of your choice. In the Importer (in version 3.0), you'll get back the DVBViewer channel list and map each channel to a xmltv data source.

Regards,
Stéphane.

Ok, well it seems like DVB Viewer could be the answer for me. I've just purchased it, so when it arrives in my inbox I'll give it a try on it's own, then purchase your network encoder
Thanks for the info

Also be careful there is a bug in DVBViewer 3.9.4 : it doesn't let my plugin to add a new recording directory, so you have to manually add it in DVBViewer (and edit a dvbviewer settings file).

Well, I've installed DVB Viewer, and have done a full scan, which has discovered most of the channels in europe it would seem!
I still have no ITV HD though, and none of the encrypted channels are being decrypted by my CI and CAM even though in the hardware section I have the CI option ticked.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong here?

Have you downloaded the Technotrend CI support within DVBViewer, there should be a ttBdaDrvApi_Dll.dll in the C:\Program Files\DVBViewer directory.

I attached the one I am using. If channels are decrypted within SageTV, I don't see any reasons they would not be in DVBViewer...

Regards,
Stéphane.

Hi John, ITV HD needs to be manually added into DVBViewer. I've attached a file for you to use so you can just import these settings.

Grab the attached file and save it but ensure it is renamed to an .ini file rather than .txt. Next fire up DBVViewer and from the menu select Channel > Channel Editor and within channel editor one of the buttons at the bottom left is import a channel list. If you use this ini file then ITVHD will be added to your DVBViewer channels.

One thing to point out is that Sage isn't playing back itvhd yet but I believe they are working on it and this step is fundamental to getting the whole thing working.

Good luck
