Leave My DShow Merit's Alone!

Installed Arcsoft (Pretty nice. Played a BR disk that Cyberlink wouldn't...time will tell...) My preferred decoders for SD (TV/DVD) are NVIDIA Video, and AC3 Filter Audio - Merit 0x904000. Noticed that AC3 Filter was now showing only 2 channel input...hmmmm. Opened up a .vob in GraphEdit and noticed I now had a hitch-hiker in the filter chain...ArcSoft Audio Decoder HD was inserted before AC3Filter and causing the problem (The ArcSoft app *was* set to 5.1). So I brought all ArcSoft decoders that were higher than "Normal" - 0x600000, down to that level. I then raised my preferred decoders to 0xFFFFFF. Re-booted and problem solved, 5.1 input was back. Look developers...you can write your software to use your own decoders...if you want to make them available via DShow, fine, but set them to "Normal". If I want to use your decoders for anything else, I'll choose them myself. This is one example why people consider HTPC's "Too Techy".

I believe that this Hijackng of graphs is a very common problem most people have. They just have not learned how to check which filters are in use.

The cyberlink 7.3 installer does the same thing, only one worse. It unregisters the nvidia audio decoder everytime powerdvd is played. Nice. Needless to say cyberlink powerdvd is no longer installed on my Sage box.

Yea, I freaked the first time I saw the NV audio disappear back in the day I know it occurs all the time, Sage used to do it (I *think* they stopped). The ArcSoft one was pointless - it caused a problem in a non-ArcSoft app, and fixing the problem didn't hurt Total Media Theater No way J6P would have known what to do without a ton of research or support calls to an OEM. Anyway, rant off
