Setting up my Sage
Been reading these forums far too much when I should be working! I have my HD extenders, HD Homerun, OTA antenna, and just got my Hauppauge HDPVR. My new computer should be arriving next week so ready and waiting!
I plan on having 2 OTA streams and once set up and working adding the HDPVR connected to my HD Cable box (Rogers in Toronto). Just trying to figure out if when I set up the OTA channels (hopefully will receive Toronto and Buffalo) if I should set up as OTA or Digital Cable from an EPG channel mapping point of view? When I add the HDPVR and set up the Digital Cable channels am I going to be able to tell which I am recording on (assuming I set up the OTA to map onto Digital Cable channels)? Trying to set things up as simple as possible. Thanks |

Will your one antenna get both Toronto and Buffalo stations? And you'll be using the HDHR splitter to run the single antenna into both tuner inputs (thus giving you two tuners with the same available reception)?
And does the EPG from either city include stations from the other on it? If not, you would have to pick one, and then manually add the other city's stations that you receive. If both cities' channels are not available on a single EPG, and you didn't want to manually add them, you could assign a different city EPG to each tuner, but then you would only be able to record from a certain city with that tuner.... you probably don't want that. I have two cities nearby (Dayton and Cincinnati), and (thankfully) both cities' OTA EPGs include the other city's channels. I have two HDHRs, each with their own "directional" antenna (that does not receive the other city well), so I made one HDHR "Cincinnati" and the other "Dayton", so I giving me two tuners for each city. Then I just disabled the other city's channels from the respective channel setup for those tuners. Being only OTA, I have all of my "major network" favorites (the channels that are basically the same programming in either city) set up where they can record from either city, and I have yet to see a conflict. Of course, I don't watch/record nearly as much TV as most...
