Lag time on one extender but not the other?

Hey there,

I'm curious if anyone with more than one extender has noticed any difference in the time it takes to switch menus, eg choosing a dvd (stored on hard drive), from one unit to the other.

My extender never has any lag, I never see the round arrow, but my wife's constantly has lag.

The only hardware difference between the two is that she is on 10/100 cat 5e from extender to router and the rest of the network is all 10/100/1000 cat 6.

I never upgraded that cable run. And I know that the system is meant to work on a 10/100 as the extenders are not gigabit.

Any ideas?
Cheers

Poor implementation of the "switch" built into your router?

You've already identified your only difference. The cable. I would find another known good cable (doesn't need to be cat 6 but whatever you have lying around.) and connect it up and test. If that fixes it go out and buy yourself a new cable. If you don't have one go buy one and take it back if it doesn't fix the issue.

I'd try swapping the extenders and see if the lag moves with the extender or stays with the network cable run. If it moves with the extender, then it's the extender and not the network cable or switch/router.

If it stays with the network cable run, then try swapping the two ports on the switch and see if it moves with the network cable or stays with the port. If it moves with the network cable, then it's the network cable. Otherwise, it's the switch/router. If you've got another port available on the switch/router, try using it.
