Photo Editing Software

I have many 100's of digital photos that need to be rotated 90 degrees so they are properly displayed on my HD100. Can anybody recommend a program that will allow me to do this en masse?

Ideally I want to be able to view all of the photos in a directory as thumbnails, select the photos I want to rotate, and then have them all done at once.

Windows XP lets you ROTATE from "Windows Explorer" (my documents) App. View in Thumbnails, select your targets, right-click and select "Rotate Clockwise"

I also use batch mode in Adobe Photoshop Elements "Process Multiple Files" to create a resized duplicate if I want a set resolution for faster loading.

If you are comfortable with the command line, then you could use the image magic convert with rotate command line tool.... The nice thing about command line tools, if that you can generally pass multiple files.

Thanks stuckless but it's all done already using explorer. Now the kids don't have to turn their heads sideways to see their pictures.

Wait, it was kind of funny seeing them do that, maybe I'll rotate them back

Since you'll likely have more rotated images in the future....

Lots of (newish) cameras note when a rotated shot was taken. Many import programs (other than the default XP program; but including Vista, Picasa and lots of others) will read this metadata in the photo, and automatically rotate the image on import.

Very helpful, since I've been in the same place as you...

Edit: I should also add that this procedure also takes care of one other issue that would be a pain to do it manually: My wife and I naturally rotate the camera the opposite direction when we take portrait-orientation photos. So, I'd have to rotate 50% (or whatever) of the photos clockwise, and the rest counter-clockwise. Letting the import program handle that makes my life *much* easier...

I've got an HP R727 and I've been using the HP software to do the import. I don't know if the camera supports the "rotate" metadata, I'll have to poke around with Picasa to see how it works.

Just as a note, I've been very happy with this simple digital camera and the support from HP has been outstanding. My wife dropped the camera into a pond while playing miniature golf and after we dried the camera out it still worked perfectly. Figuring the thing would fail quickly we called HP support and they replaced it for a fraction of the retail price as long as we sent them the old camera back.
