WinTV-HVR-2250 IR Blaster

I have a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 tuner card and the Vista Media Center kit for that card. The Media Center kit comes with a remote control and a USB IR blaster for changing channels on my Dish Network satellite receiver box. I want to tune in OTA analog and digital stations using my antenna and also receive my Dish Network service via the S-video connection on my tuner card. The problem is that the IR receiver blaster does not seem to work with SageTV which results in failure to change channels on the satellite receiver.

When I go through the SageTV setup, my Hauppauge IR blaster is not listed as an option when configuring the recording source. I talked to Hauppauge tech support and they said that the IR blaster that I have will only work in Windows Media Center, and will not work in SageTV. That may be true, because I found this in the SageTV manual:

SageTV does not use the MCE IR blaster portion of the Hauppauge MCE kits, which come with
the MCE remote + blaster.

I guess my conclusion is that it is not possible to use the IR blaster that came with the 2250 tuner card on SageTV. I will need to use Vista Media Center. I don't really want to use VMC because it is very limited in terms of the number of input sources, so if I am wrong, and there is some way to get my IR blaster to work with SageTV, please let me know.

Thanks.

You could check the stickies at the top of this forum for one dealing with IR blasters & see the links for the MCE blaster that are listed there.

Thank you for the suggestion. I am sorting through that information right now.
