Questions on Converting/Compressing recordings

After reading through the forums here on this topic for some time, I'm not sure I have a clear understanding on what options I have regarding re-encoding recordings.

Currently have 5 tuners, (2 analog, 3 digital (2 clear QAM, 1 ATSC))

Here is what I'd like to accomplish:

1) Record in both SD and HD (all MPEG2 at the moment) to a local drive on the sagetv (v6.5.1, Windows XP pro) server (I have this working)

2) Automatically run comskip on SD and HD recordings (working for SD at the moment)

3) Automatically convert all SD and HD recordings to AVC using profiles based on content (ie: All 1080i use one profile, 720p another, 480i, 480p and so on), saving the output to my NAS. If the MPEG2 source is interlaced, I want the AVC encode to be interlaced (I'd rather the decoder do any deinterlacing, not the encoder).

4) Following a successful AVC encode, automatically move the comskip files to the NAS and remove the original MPEG2 recording, having only the new AVC conversion now residing on the NAS showing in Recorded TV.

So, 3 and 4 are throwing me for a loop. Anyone care to point me in the right direction?

Another question: Why does this question get moved to "SageTV Customizations" after posting it in "SageTV Software"? Archiving of recordings appear to be a core feature of SageTV.

The AutoCompress addin will allow you to save your compressed file to a new folder and delete the original which should meet #4. #3 is a bit trickier as I don't know that you can currently do conditionals with the degree of sophistication that you want.. Slugger is just coming out with SJQ 2.0 which may be able to do this - check it out.

#3 could probably be set up on a per-show basis by creating your own compression presets. then for shows that you know are 1080i v 720p you choose one preset over another.

i do a similar thing by having animated shows (and older shows) compressed with one preset, and new/HD shows compressed with another. i skip #4 as all my recordings reside on my NAS anyway.

Migyt post in the SJQ thread as it has you 90% covered all you would need to ask for is resolution and interlacing in the rules.

Otherwise I do all that now but I deinterlace everything.

Basically stuff wouldn't happen in the same exact order you mentioned but you can.

comskip then compress/replace then move to NAS.

You'll need to write a batch file to do the moving to NAS part but SJQ can supply the variables you need.

SJQ can already do per channel but I know they don't broadcast consistently like that too often.
