Hauppauge IR 45 Button Remote Problems

I'm having an annoying problem with my 45 button Hauppauge remote. When I'm navigating around Sage, it won't let me hit a button more than twice in a row before it becomes completely non-responsive. If I hit a different button it works fine, but then I can't hit that new button more than once.

The weird thing is that if I use the remote on another program other than Sage (for example, Vista Media Center), it works fine and I can scroll through the menus as much as I want using the same button. This makes me think it's a problem with Sage....

Anyone else having this problem?

I found that the Hauppauge remote actually sends two codes that alternate per button (at least some buttons). The solution is to program SageTV to accept both codes per button. If you use the USB-UIRT, you can confirm that the buttons sends two codes that alternate with the free IRHelper utility.

I'm transmitting codes via Firewire. However, I don't think the USB solution is related, because my problem even exists when I'm navigating the Sage menus...

Goto Setup>>Detailed Setup>>Commands>>Link Infrared Keystroke to SageTV Command.

Now go through each command Two Times
.
The Hauppauge remotes send out alternating codes with each button press and Sage needs to know both of them.

What IR receiver are you using?

If you are using the IR receiver on a Hauppauge tuner, then learning the code in SageTV has nothing to do with it; if you are using a USB-UIRT, then it should alternate between the button working & not because the remotes toggles the code between 2 states each time the same button is pressed repeatedly.

And, is it really the Hauppauge remote or Hauppauge's version of an MCE remote w/a USB receiver?

I'm using the IR receiver on the Hauppage HD-PVR. And it's the Hauppauge remote that came with the HD-PVR box...

One other thing about this problem, if I switch remotes to a MCE remote, or some other remote, will I do away with the issue? I don't really like the Hauppauge remote anyways...any recommendations from anyone on either solving my problem or replacing it with another remote all together??

Okay, so the weird thing that happened by accident last night was my wife restarted the computer. After the reboot, the IR remote problem we were having went away. Any ideas on how I can prevent the annoying problem I was having? Rebooting seems like an extreme resolution....

I'm having similar issues but the symptoms are somewhat random.

Using HD-PVR, remote supplied with the HD-PVR, latest Sage Beta

Sometimes a remote click will work multiple times in a row, sometimes it will "miss" one or more times and then start working again. Most noticeable to me when navigating through recordings with the up and down keys.

When it starts regularly skipping multiple button presses I reboot along with turning the HD-PVR off and then back on. That makes it better again, but it still misses 1 out of every 3 or 4 button presses even after a fresh reboot.

Anyone have clues on what could be happening here and ideas on how to debug?

I assume you guys have the HDPVR plugged into a motherboard USB slot, what motherboards do you guys have?

Yes mine is plugged into a USB input on the motherboard.

Unsure of the brand/model. Is there reason to believe that certain mobos could be causing this trouble? If so I can do the dance of unpugging everything, pulling it from the cabinet, and pulling the cover off to get the mobo details.

I have a PCI USB 2.0 card in a drawer, could install and use that for the HDPVR connection if there is reason to believe it would help.

It might be wise as it wouldn't be the first time a chipset wasn't up to snuff and it was only seen when the bandwidth of the devices was really pushed.

You might also have more then one USB host controller on your board, this too ~could~ play a factor.

Motherboard is a Gigabyte S series with the NVIDIA chipset. 4 USB ports on the mobo back panel and 2 ports on the case that are connected to pins on the mobo. I had 3 USB devices plugged in to the mobo back panel - an APC UPS, a Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse receiver, and the HD-PVR.

As I said earlier, I had a USB 2.0 PCI card laying around so I installed that. With the HD-PVR plugged into that and the other devices plugged into the mobo ports the situation is improved. Still not great though as one in every 6 or 8 clicks on the remote go unrecognized.

So do others have the Hauppauge remote working fine through the HD-PVR IR receiver? If so I will keep experimenting with the USB devices and locations, and check for driver updates for everything. If that does not work I guess I will just buy USB-IRT and give up on using the HD-PVR IR receiver.

Can you elaborate on this? In device manager I have 5 host controllers, 5 root hubs, and one composite device. Should I look into deleting some of these, and if so how can I tell which are redundant?

OS is on XP Pro with the latest service packs and fixes.

Angry 3x Hauppauge 45 button remote Sage TV problem

I'm having the exact same problem. I have the Hauppauge HDPVR with 45 button remote. Can only press the same button three times then have to press another button before it will recognize another press of the original button. Has anyone got the 45 button remote with Hauppauge HDPVR receiver working in Sage TV without this 3x problem? The remote works fine in Vista Media Center.

After trying a some USB device reconfiguration including isolating the HD-PVR to it's own USB card the problem persisted.

I bought a USB-UIRT and am now completely happy. Lightning quick response to the remote again and no dropped commands.

I have the same problem except I'm using the ATI Remote Wonder, so I don't think it's limited to the Hauppauge remotes. I can click the Down button twice before it's non-responsive. Only by clicking another button will down work for another two clicks. Sound familiar?

Using Sage 6.6
