What's the recommended AV package for WHS? I run AVG Free on my other systems, but I do not belive they have a WHS version?

Is there a partition manager cheaper (maybe free?) that can safely handle S_M_E's C/D resizing tutorial? Paragon Enterprise is roughly $800 which is a bit out of my price range for what should be a single use.

Thanks,

I use Symantec AV Corporate Edition on WHS but it wasn't "made for WHS." On the WHS forums there are threads discussing WHS specific AV solutions.

I don't know about other partition tools but since you're interrupting the install after the textmode (F6) portion finishes copying files and reboots, WHS hasn't actually been installed yet and you *might* be able to use any PM that uses a floppy/cd/dvd as a boot medium. The worse thing that could happen is it won't work and you'll have to start over, booting the WHS dvd.

I had problems with the install of the Sage Web server as I mentioned above but I was able to manually set it up by copying the relevant lines into the Sage.properties file from my old install - and you have to add the webserver to the load at startup line in sage.properties

I recently installed thw webserver on my WHS and I have not had any problems!?
I don't remember doing anything different to it at all - except maybe in the Windows Firewall - changing the scope to allow me to access it from outside my local network. This lets me schedule a recording if my wife asks me after I have gone to work!

It runs fine on my WHS server using 8080 for the Sage webserver. I use it all the time I'm away from home and someone tells me about a program that I'm not currently recording but sounds good. I drop in at Starbucks and set up the recording. Short, sweet and simple.

I am using Mcafee 8.7i corporate edition on my WHS server. Have not had any issues with it.

Perhaps someone can help me here. I have HS and a pair of Hauppauge Win TV PCR PCI 2 cards. When using the latest version of Sage it says that there is no signal. The cards are good, I have been using them in an XP setup for years. I know that I am getting signal to the cards. I have tried a couple different drivers and still no luck.

Anyone have any ideas?

I am betting that your WHS box has 4GB or more of memory. If so you will have to go down to less than 4Gig - I had the same issue. This is due to a bug in the Hauppauge drivers that causes them to not work when you have 4 Gig or more of memory in your system and WHS seems to be able to see 4 Gig whereas XP or Vista only are able to see 3.5Gig. There is a thread on here that talks about this but I can't find it right now.

I ran into this same issue this weekend on WHS. The installer logs showed that it couldn't execute some Java calls (it uses these calls to edit the properties files). I didn't have another machine running with SageTV that I could copy the lines from so I installed Java and the installer completed without issue and webserver is working great.

Hopefully installing the Sun Java won't cause new issues with SageTV and it's own included copy of Java... The right way to fix this would of probably been to figure out how to make the Sage copy of Java appear in the path so the installer could execute it.

One of the requirements for running SageTV is the installation of java on the machine you are running SageTV on. This includes WHS. Since the WHS installation of SageTV is an .msi and as a console add-in you need to install java on your own.

I'm considering going to WHS when I rebuild my server in the next month or so. I've been a happy Sage XP user since 2005, but it seems that WHS has some advantages.

Are there things that don't work well/at all in WHS vs XP? Doesn't seem to be anything listed in the few threads I've checked.

I run Sage, Sage web server, SJQ (launching comskip, video redo and ffmpeg for various tasks). that's about it.

thanks
matt

I'm guessing that's my problem!!!, Excellent!

I can't get the xmltv importer to work, and I'm having the "unable to write or read sage.properties problem".
I didn't install Java (this is the first time I've tried WHS over the XP installs - which include Java)
I'll try it tonight after it's finished recording my favorites.....

Is that limitation on all drivers from Hauppauge?
I have Tuners: 1 Hauppauge PVR 500, 1 Hauppauge HVR-2250 and 3 Gig of memory
and I was going to get another HVR-2250 and drop the PVR 500 and add more memory.
Does anyone have 4 Gig or more of memory in your system with a Hauppauge HVR-2250 tuner?

I have 2 2250's and 4 GIG of ram, and the tuners are working fine.
I am in Australia and using DVB instead of ATSC, maybe that makes a difference?
