HD100 Just died

Hey guys,
I am having a problem with my HD-100 that just started today. Earlier today it just stopped working. I tried re-cycling power using both the switch and the power cord. It just stopped working. When I try to turn it on all I get is a red light flash under the power for about 1 second, but it never starts. Almost like a HDD failure. The unit isn't even a year old. I bought it in May last year.

Has anyone had this problem before? I have a feeling it's a goner.
Thanks for the help in advance,
Dana

Try the configuration reset procedure on page 9 of the SageTV_HD100_Manual.pdf, and if that doesn't help, contact SageTV support.

Same here, wife called me the other day and said the TV was not working.

Looking at the HD-100 all the power light does is flash.

Mine is about 2yrs old, I guess it is time to contact support.

It cannot be 2 years old since they started selling it in december 2007 so it might be just 2 months our of 1 year warranty.

Sorry to hear that. Mine was just under a year old. I sent it in and it was returned to me fixed within 2 weeks.
The only thing that bothered me was the only information that I got was an address of where to send it and an RMA number. Never any news they got, what was wrong or when it was coming back. Not a huge deal, I did get it back working. I just would have thought I would have gotten some info.
Oh well,
Dana

JRE,

You are right, it was purchased on 12-10-2007 so just out of warranty.

I will check with Sage to see what they will charge to repair, if available.

If they cant I will rip into it and see what is going on, I would imagine it is something to do with the PS as these are the weak links in any device.

I am using the SD extender for now, it is working well, worst case I will pick up another SD extender as I am not using HD.

Thanks

Any luck yet? Mine just died last night in the same way. It was in the first shipment also, so out of warranty.

Add another user to the list who is having the same problem.

All I get is a slow blinking red light.

My Purchase date was also 12/10/2007.

I have two of these units. The only problems so far was the small IR window and the faulty power supplies. Both issues were handled hassle free by sage.

I hope being just out of warranty they cover the fix since this seems to be effecting other people the exact same way.

Has anyone had a problem getting this fixed while not under warranty?
Where there any costs associated?
What is or was the problem?
Is this likely to effect my other unit?
Is there anything that can be done to prevent the problem from happening?

Well this is disconcerting. Please keep the group informed as to how things go with these units.

Mine died a week and a half ago. I sent it in but haven't got it back yet! I asked them to ship me back an HD-200, but they said no.

UPDATED by Narflex: Please see my post below about our new HD100 warranty policy, it has changed

Chris,

Unfortunately it is beyond the warranty period and we don't offer a repair
service for them.

Thanks,

Yeah, it is a bit of a disappointment. I got in the original shipment, ordered the day they were released to sell. It's disheartening to have a product life of a year and a couple of months.

I would be interested to know what component has gone bad in those units that this is happening to. Mine was making a sort of high pitched whine the couple of days before it went out, and now when the led flashes, although it won't boot, you can hear the same high pitch whine for a moment everytime the led flashes.

Yeah this is very disappointing. You would think they would at least try to help you get it repaired at your cost.

crystal or transistor or inductor, unfortunately the failed component most likely provided a cascading path to kill other components.

i think (hope) this economy will re-create the "repair" it mentality in this country

If any of my 3 HD100's goes south it's back to PC Clients for me. Not trilled about the idea of a $200 1 year an a day paperweight.

I know I never thought about this aspect of the extenders. Fortunately their other short comings kept me from buying one. I'm surprised that they only lasted a year. I wonder if we will see a similar fallout next year with the HD200's.

I wonder if Sage might be wiling to buy back a few of these out-of-warranty units for, say, $50 for a post-mortem analysis.

Perhaps the HD200 is so different that it would not be helpful, but I would think that a company would like to know what's happening to their products to cause them to die off after a year.
