SageMC Crashing?

Hi,

I am using SageMC 6.3.8a with SageTV 6.5.9 (trial), with no other add-ons.

Absolutely love the interface, but when I'm using SageMC, the application crashes after the second or third channel I tune to in LiveTV. Very similar to what "71 Cuda" describes here.

When I disable SageMC and use the default STV, everything seems to work smoothly.

I have reproduced the crash and attached the log file.

Using:
CenterSageWide
Hauppauge HVR-2250 + latest beta drivers
Onboard ATI Radeon HD 3200
HDMI to HDTV 720p
AMD Athlon X2 5050e 2.6GHz
4GB DDR2

Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks for the help!

Do you have any other 3rd party add-ons/plugins installed other than SageMC?

While it doesn't really look like it's the cause of your problem, based on your log file, you could try increasing the JVM heap size. Your setting is at the default 266MB and I would not run SageMC UI with anything less than 500MB. The JVM heap size has to be changed in the Windows Registry by running the Windows Regedit program (Start Button->Run->regedit). In the registry, browse to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Frey Technologies\SageTV

and double click JVMMaxHeapSizeMB to change it to 200 (with hexadecimal radio button selected).

Other than that, I would try testing with different mpeg decoders and try disabling all UI animations in the SageMC UI.

I'd try switching to overlay mode rather than vmr9 and see if this makes a difference.

Mick.

Mick.
I had switched to overlay several days ago becuase of stuttering video. It did not improve my crashing problems.

I reverted back to the stock STV and was able to reproduce the crashes there. I also started getting some crashes to the desktop in the middle of a show (without pressing any buttons). And I started getting other lockups and crashes (to a windows reporting popup).

I finally gave up and I'm restaging my whole machine. I'm in the process of reinstalling Windows as I write this. I hope it fixes it because it's a pain in the a$$. I'll report back when I'm done.

If the reinstallation doesn't work, look in the SageTV .properties file (or the client .properties if running SageTV as a service) for these lines:

seeker/fast_mux_switch
videoframe/safe_fast_file_switching

Try setting them both to false.

I think these settings deal with how SageTV starts or switches to a new recording. Hangs or crashes when channel surfing or playing a recording may be fixed by changing these settings.
