No video playback on HD-200 from ripped DVDs
Thought for sure I'd find a solution in the forums....
Brand new to SageTV and have been enjoying it for a month now. Plus the wife is happy. No small thing that. I've never gotten ripped DVDs (DVDneXtCopy Ultimate to vob) to play on my HD-200 extender--only a title bar appears, followed by a dark screen. They all playback fine through SageTV Media Center on a Windows XP-based Core2Duo PC.

Some follow-up questions, if you don't mind. I haven't had time to try one of the other two packages, but it appears that DVD Shrink is freeware and DVDFab is retail. Before I spend more money, do you prefer the retail DVDFab over the free DVD Shrink for features or performance reasons? You mentioned that DVDnextCopy is not compliant. Do you mean compliant as compared to an industry standard, or in terms of HD200 compatibility? Is there a chance a future HD200 firmware update may accommodate the quirkiness of DVDnextCopy? Do you think trying to reason with DVDnextCopy author for a fix is a waste of time? Thanks again! Bill |

Had the same issue, DVD's played on SageTV server not on HD200.
Rebooted HD200 (UNPLUGGED IT). Worked after that! |

Ok, thanks for the help, all.
I'll try power cycling the HD200, and ripping with another tool. Once I have some results, I'll report back. |

AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter (with decryption stuff turned off) is the most compliant.

I just wanted to mention that DVD Fab has a free version on their website called DVDFab HDDecrypter. It is a locked down version that only disables the extra processes like ipod conversion and the like. It will still burn full disc with menus or allows you to just burn the main movie, which is what I do. It has only run into a couple discs that it could not do alone, and running AnyDVD with it took care of those. Running them together is actually not normally advised as they can apparently conflict, so I have only done it the couple of times I had to. Works great for me, but I do not go through a lot of the post-burn "washing" that some of the members do here to their recordings.
For the IPOD, I found a free converter that does that for me and I use it to burn cartoons for my kids to watch on the Odyssey monitor until I get around to building my Vanputer

I have confirmed that power cycling the HD-200 does not help. Still can't play DVDs from the hard disk via HD-200.
So now, I'm researching other ripping software packages. Definitely will try before buying. |

I was able to successfully rip DVDs using SlySoft's AnyDVD and DVDClone2. I'm still in the 21-day free evaluation period for these products and find they work very well together. They're quite intuitive and they get the job done.
Now ripped DVD movies playback just fine on the HD-200 media extender. I tried ripping using the free DVD Decrypter (without AnyDVD) on those archive DVDs which had been burned with broadcast TV recordings sourced from my old DVR. They, too, would *not* play on the HD-200. So, AnyDVD (or a product like it) seems to be the key for me. I opened a support ticket with DVDnextCopy. Their initial reply indicated the issue has been transferred internally (twice) to other support personnel. They promise to help, but it's been a few days with no meaningful reply. We'll see. Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions! Bill |
