dell canada

Dell Canada has the HD-PVR on for $219.00 Canadian with free shipping. Is this a decent deal?

That's the best I've seen for Canada.

Just curious, what is it used for? Wouldn't a HTPC with an HD tuner be a better solution?

When it comes to HTPC with HD Tuner's...you're pretty much limited to OTA signals. The HDPVR has component inputs which would allow you capture HD content from Satelite/Cable providers which may not be available OTA (i.e., HBO). With H.264 capabilities, you can also keep your file sizes down.

Thanks for the tip. The HD-PVR is normally $300+ by the time you get it.

Ahh got it, thanks. Here I am trying to get rid of cable TV. I figured between rentals on my ATV and H.264 movies (H.264 has amazing compression) I hardly use cable anymore. And the HBO stuff comes out on video usually in a year.
